That album sparked my very real love affair with the Weakerthans, and my very imaginary (but no less valid) love affair with John K. Samson (who I have met, mostly by accident, enough times that he recognizes me at shows now! Which kind of freaks me out and makes my life better simultaneously).

I was in my thirties before I bought my first CD.  I think it was Madness, The Peel Sessions,though I'm not sure.  But I remember my first record:  for my thirteenth birthday, my sister bought me this:

 I thought it was first cd only, this is the first album I ever purchased because the store was out of the single (Sister Mary Elephant):



 I was really confused about why the included poster was printed on thin rice paper as well as the content. "Mom, what's psilocybin?"
"Mom, what's Lebanese blond hash?", Etc. In my defense, I was only seven years old.
