Just a little Off topic, but I think I got my first CD deck in 1994 (at age 35!)--a used one from a friend that only opened when you hit it just right, ala Funzie.
I had already owned a CD for a few years, though--a nice CD of Bach keyboard concerti that had come with a club membership. Was all LP and tape up until then.

First CD I actually bought was this, followed by Kojak Variety:

I remember that I used to have a kid's record player. My only 45? Phil Collins' "Two Hearts".
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

My first album was "Free To Be, You and Me"

I still have it. I also have the MP3s, just so I can rejoice in a little "William Wants A Doll" every now and then when I'm in my car.

My first tape was "Flood" by They Might Be Giants. Still one of my favorites.

Flood was the third cd I bought.  I have no clue what my first cassette was but Quiet Riot's Mental Health is a contender.  My first 45 was Juice Newton's Queen Of Hearts when I was really young and the first album I remember buying was Def Leppard's Pyromania.

That was my first CD. I got it on my birthday but I didn't have time to listen to it because I had to get to school. Later that day I was hit in the knee with an aluminum bat (someone's grip slipped in softball) and I got to go home early. I was pscyhed because I got to listen to my new CD and I hated softball anyway.

My first tapes were two that my dad had borrowed from the library and copied for me. I was about 7 and they were The Bangles and some Madonna tape. I can't remember which one.

The first tape I bought myself was Def Lepperd.

I posted my first CD earlier, but my first cassette album, embarrassingly enough, was

You must be close to the same age as my kid sister. That was her first album which she played it endlessly on family car trips. This thing gives me horrible flashbacks of being driven aimlessly around Pennsylvania and New York State, bored out of my mind with my head jammed into a pillow.

I can't remember which one came first, but the first and only three CDs I owned for a long time were Dookie by Green Day, Mellow Gold by Beck, and Transmissions from the Sattelite Heart by Flaming Lips. Two of those three discs still occassionally get dusted off. I'll leave it up to everyone's imagination which two.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

all three of those are dust-off worthy.
