I woke up this morning with a cat sitting on my stomach and staring me down. I stared right back and said, "Good day, Mr. Cue-brick." He meowed and started purring. My cat is Mr. Cuebrick, reincarnated.

This story has inspired me to collect reminscences from people around the country about how this video has affected their lives.*  I'll be like the Studs Terkel of this one thing.**

*but I won't.
**except not.

I love it!!  Then you could write a tome containing your interviews, just like Studs, and it would be witty and great, and would be sold on the "Who Knew?" table at Barnes & Noble, except that it would have no relevance to much of anything in the world.  But i still love the idea somehow.  I guess you have better things to do with your time, Chris L, for which I commend you.

Thanks, Fido.  You're right, I do have better things to do right now.  For instance, I'm compiling an anthology of "Snakes on a Plane" blog posts, which I'm going to publish as either a massive, leather bound, seven volume set or as a series of thousands of door hangers.  This stuff really hearkens back to a more innocent time and it should be put in its proper historical context.

Do you have time to tell the Kubrick story now, Jason?

Stanley Kubrick's wife, daughter and son in law formed a vanity opera company called Palace Opera. It was of course entirely funded by Stanley and no doubt worth every penny to keep them out of his hair.
His wife, Christiana, designed and painted the the sets. She wasn't a bad artist but from one scene to the next she would go from minimalist all white to detailed pre-raphaelite angels descending from the sky, it was an absolute joke. She had me and a few others help her make the set in the stables of Kubrick's home, and when I say stables imagine a u shaped two story building surrounding a 100 foot square court yard. The stables were filled with absolute crap, although I did find a an early 1970s copy of time with Kubrick on the cover that I still kick myself for not sticking it in my pocket.
His daughter, I think her name was Anya, was the "star" of the show. She claimed to have studied under all these great European opera singers yet she was absolutely atrocious. She was so bad that during some perfomances she claimed to have lost her voice and mimed on stage while a real opera singer sang in the wings.
Anya's husband conducted the orchestra.
I ate quite a few times in their kitchen, there was huge old phone with buttons for extensions that included the billiard room and the screening room.
Any questions?

How long was this company in existence?  Did you ever get to talk to Stanley?  And what are Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman really like?

I don't know, I really liked the first video, particularly the random non-sequiturs that precipitated the bad overacting. Second video? Eh, not so much.

Good day, Mr. Cue-brick.

I got through 1.5 minutes of the first video, maybe 50 seconds of that second video.
