Swedish jazz pianist Esbjörn Svensson, leader of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio (more known as e.s.t.) died this weekend after some sort of bizarre diving accident in Stockholm. He was 44. (
Guardian obit) I wasn't a huge fan, but it's certainly a sad story. Svensson was influenced both by classic Swedish folk jazz like Jan Johansson, and modern music. That can result in rather diastrous genre-bending experiements, I know, but when it works, it's pretty good. Like in this song from 2003,
Seven Days of Falling, which I think sounds like Jan Johansson channeling Radiohead:
