Stairway to Stardom? Count me in!
<Comin' to America>
<Poem about bashing some kid's head against the radiator>
<Hairdresser>
O.k. Where to begin?
First of all, All the King's Men do a pretty decent job of vibing-up Neil Diamond, but I can't shake the feeling that if someone had given them a Contortions or a Gang of Four record back then, they could've been
AWESOME... Just a feeling I have...
Second, is it, "That's beautiful, Precious," or "That's beautiful, precious." It's a big diff in that context. And speaking of context,
where is it? Surely that can't be the whole poem, right? I'm more curious about this than most things I could potentially be curious about this morning.
And last, the "Hairdresser" has opened up a couple of new songwriting doors for me - the way she sifts to the "Teaser Louise" thing in the middle is a revelation - she drops a whole Dion and the Belmonts update type of song (in which she says, "How can a model drink beer from a bottle" - better than anything the Strokes ever wrote) - right smack in the middle of a Shirelles update type of song - genius!
