In-flight movies.
« on: July 19, 2008, 10:04:09 PM »
I have a hard time ignoring movies being played on tiny monitors embedded in a plane ceiling, so I've had the pleasure of seeing some real stinkers. I thought for sure I could remember a ton but all I can currently come up with is:

- Sliding Doors
- Failure to Launch
- Snow Dogs
- Enchanted
- The one time I took a JetBlue flight, I watched most of a Top Chef marathon. That was actually wonderful.
- August Rush

Also I saw Babe 2: Pig in the City and Sweet Home Alabama on a Shortline bus. And I think I saw Armageddon on a Greyhound. Ha. Ha. Seriously though. What have you suffered through?

Christmas with the Kranks?
Or the Santa Clause(s).

As for me, I somehow managed to catch 'Chain Reaction' with Keanu Reeves and Morgan Freeman and Rachel Weisz, like, three times, on planes, back in the day.

As a kid, I once flew to Africa. It took four flights to get there and back, and on all four they showed Coming To America.

I wonder if hollywood has a quota of "airline-friendly" films to make per year.  Probably not, but amusing to consider.

i also paid to watch miracle on a red eye flight when i had morning sickness so badly that i was worried that if i didn't have something to focus on, i'd hurl into the lap of the dude next to me.

I posit that Welcome to Mooseport is the worst in-flight movie ever, because I lived through it. Snow Dogs would be pretty horrible too though.

I was once on a flight that was too short for a full length movie so they decided to put on two episodes of Frasier followed by the Munsters. My headphones stayed firmly lodged in my walkman.

I've also been on a bus between Boston and Maine where they put in the 2nd disc of the Field of Dreams deluxe edition which had stuff like "The Diamond in the Husks": A tour of the field of dreams field.

I don't care for your tone regarding Babe: Pig in the City. That is a fantastic movie.

Elf
Freaky Friday
Something with that drunk Australian (not the anti-semitic one) where he's knocking around in a boat for two hours
Evan Almighty (second worst movie I have ever seen)
can't remember the other ones right now...

I cried at the end of Elf on a flight back from Slovenia.  That's not the most embarrassing thing, though: I rented Freaky Friday.

Also, Miami Vice.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

For reals.

Confidential to ughwhy: kf's partner was inspired to become a vegetarian b/c of that movie.

No doubt it just didn't translate on a pink-tinted five-inch screen.

And yeah, "Snow Dogs" was pretty deadly. That was on a flight returning from Spain, an Iberia flight that had been booked almost entirely by United, so there were a lot of ugly Americans. I was flying alone and sitting amongst a high school group from rural Pennsylvania. One of the flight attendants haaaaaaaaaated this group. When we landed, one of the girls pulled out her iPod before we reached the gate and the attendant started yelling at her, first in English and then in Spanish. The gist of her yelling was, "THIS IS A SPANISH AIRLINE AND WE HAVE MANNERS!!!!"

The dreadful:

Starsky and Hutch
Backdraft

The not-so-dreadful:

Get Shorty
My Cousin Vinny

There's been tons of others, but those are the only four I remember watching.

I love Get Shorty.

Anyway, my best in-flight movie experience was on my flight to Mexico where they were showing Man on Fire. For those unfamiliar with the movie, it's set in Mexico and it's about a group of criminals that kidnap children. Just imagine looking around at a plane full of (mostly American) parents with their kids on a flight to Mexico watching a movie all about the massive number of kids being kidnapped in Mexico. Someone put a lot of thought into that movie choice.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.
