I think Tom was way too harsh.

I voted in my favor.

Let's be friends, Tom. I'm a lover, not a fighter.

I'm voting yes, partly out of solidarity with Tom and partly due to my disgust that she didn't defend Aero in the chocolate thread.

what the hell happened?

I was in the middle of one of those "Ex-Roomate/ friend is getting divorced and needs you to give him therapy over IM" sessions when the shit went down.

Can anyone give a short summary? Was it a Tom Waits thing? Fight Club?

Man, I miss EVERYTHING.

What time in the show was this call?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Let me explain: I said it was shaping up to be an L due to the Tom Waits gasoline jockeys calling in every ten minutes. I say there should be a moratorium on all things Tom Waits on Tuesday nights.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a big Tom Waits fan. I absolutely love The Black Rider. I do believe, however, that everyone is entitled to their opinions, even opinions that don't align with my own. I'm not the type to badger someone if they express distaste for some of my favorite bands. My favorites don't appeal to everyone. I know this, and I accept this.

As a sign of solidarity with Tom Scharpling, I pledge to listen to nothing but The Volcano Suns, Superchunk, Portastatic, Guided by Voices, Robert Pollard, DC Snipers, and Dinosaur Jr on Tuesdays.

Laurie should most definitely NOT be banned from the show.  I loved the drama that Laurie incited.  We were all due for an extended rant and temper tantrum from Tom and he brought it.  Laurie, you are a wave maker extraordinaire.  I wonder now if Tom really will shut the chat down.  Also, did Tom really email Jason in the middle of the night asking him to shut it down?  I'm on the edge of my seat.  Can't wait for next week's show.  Best show = best entertainment evah

wow. I can see how that would be considered a treasonous statement. you should NEVER "call" a show before that clock hits 11pm (depending upon your time zone). I say this because:

1) It's bad mojo
2)There have been shows that were lackluster at the start and wound up coming back with a vengance later on

As a FOT who has irritated Tom on a few occassions via chat-postings, I would say, the best way to redeem yourself is not with WORDS but with ACTIONS. Maybe burn an FOT insignia in the end zone of the University of Florida football stadium, record an "I'm Sorry for Crossing You" apology song, or something that shows that you are still a true FOT, despite a slight misdemeanor.

good luck.

This is too much for my fragile ego. I think I need a chat with Dr. Sbaitso.

I just get caught up to speed on the 'geep' incident and there's already another conflict??

I have to withhold my vote till I hear the podcast.

I haven't caught up with the Geep thing either.

Maybe Tom should just personally boycott the chat.  It's like half the reason nobody calls is because they want to "break through" and force Tom into acknowledging their cleverness on the Chat.  The chat is an attractive way to curry validation from The Kid, because he either ignores you, laughs and announces your comment on-air, or becomes enraged at you and  makes a big stink.  All attention is positive attention.  No GOMPs and no (possibly worse?) "Mike is telling me it's time to move on"'s. Maybe if Tom didn't look at it, then the FOTs could talk to each other, then plot good calls and chime in to the show for real.

I haven't caught up with the Geep thing either.

Here are some Geeeeeeeeep particulars from the 11/14/06 show recap:

Quote from: Omar in the recap
After the music break, Tom mentions that Geeeep from the FOT Chat wants 7 laughs in the last 18 minutes. Tom demands that he call so he can hear the actual laughter while he's on hold. Sadly, Geeeeep failed to pick up the phone.

...

Tom had the show in the crosshairs until Geeeep started shooting his mouth off like a hot shot. Tom decides that Sell Me On It is 3/6th topic, not a 5 or 6/6th topic. Therefore, Tom switches to the classic Overrated/Underrated for the final stretch. The phone go so quiet that Tom feels like he's at a sparsely attended Kevin Federline concert at Webster Hall. Tom thinks people should lay off K-Fed -- despite being terrible, he had a great run and "Popo Zau" is a good record.

...

- Tristan thinks Kurt Russell is Underrated, while Geeep's laughter is Overrated. Tom will not do a show next week because he’s too emotionally scarred by Geep’s antics. Tom also hopes people are savoring the last days of the doomed chat, which will soon go the way of the ice truck and flip-top sodeys. Tom says that Geeep has ushered in a new era for The Best Show -- Before Geeeep (BG) and After Geeeep (AG). Tristan realizes that we're no longer living in a pre-Geeeep world.

Tom held true to his word.  No show on 11/21.
