The Paul F. Tompkins Show

I just thought this warranted its own thread.  If you live in the L.A. area and haven't seen this yet, it happens once a month.  I got into PFT through the best show and I saw this live show of his last night and it was hilarious.  He's without question my favorite comedian working today.  His demeanor onstage is not unlike his Best Show call-in demeanor; just a guy riffing and having a lot of fun. It's infectious and hilarious.  plus, the guidance counselor from Freaks and Geeks is his announcer/counterpart.

He also has a musical guest.  I'm not a big Michael Penn fan (the last guest) but the two of them sang Highway To Hell at the end of the act and it was hilarious.  Penn was wearing pants seemingly designed to show off his cock and balls, which I didn't appreciate, but what are you gonna do?  Andy Richter did a skit as well.  I don't know what's cooking for next month, but I'd definitely recommend checking this out.  Believe the hype!

Have you seen PFT's stand up live? He's so relaxed and fun. He's my favorite comedian right now.

edited because it sounded like I was being sarcastic.

I wish he were on the show more often, when he calls up a bad show can turn great.  And sometimes it sounds like Tom needs his spirits lifted.

Didn't sound sarcastic to me, todd.

I haven't seen The Paul F. Tompkins Show since it came back from hiatus (nor been to the new Largo location), but I've been meaning to.  Thanks for the reminder, JJ!  PFT is the best.

My favorite is when PFT just kind of hangs out and chimes in, like a co-host. His laughter is so infectious. Case in point: Morgan Spurlock's girlfriend call. So great.

Exactly, no offense to Tom but PFT was the reason I started listening to The Best Show in the first place.  Patton Oswalt didn't hurt either.

Went to go see the Benson Interruption last week and we were hoping for an appearance by The Besuited One. Alas, only Matt Besser and 2/4 of Human Giant. :( Funny, yes, but not very classy dressers.

I'm so jealous of everyone within driving range of this. I would LOVE to see one of these, but it doesn't seem too likely unless he does a DVD or something.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Indeed. I'll hope for an East Coast version.

I second everything being said in this thread. I finally got to see the show back in July when I was in LA, and it was the absolute best. It made the entire trip worthwhile. I cannot recommend that show enough. You're doing yourself a grave disservice if you actually live in LA and don't see it asap.

Tom.

In lieu of something actually purchasable, I'd settle for a clip on youtube, a bootleg mp3, anything at all! I've wanted to experience this (even briefly) for years, but no dice. This show is what has made ast so painful to browse in the past, just for the envy it causes because I can't be there.

Maybe Dave and I can set up a two-date Midwestern tour.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I also love PFT. I've seen him perform headlining sets 4 times now and each time with different jokes. The type of comedy he does, very intimate, often smaller comedy (than an arena act or even people who do HBO hours) he's got to be light years ahead of anyone else. Unfortunately for me, I don't get to see him in LA on his home turf or his show. I haven't heard it described exactly, but is the show like a hybrid of what he does with Aimee Mann, his stand-up and him on Mr. Show? What is the format? I will undoubtedly go if I can, but I never make it out to LA.

I want Paul F Tompkins to suggest a new show to VH1: "Best Regime Change Ever".
