On Phil Collins...
« on: August 11, 2008, 05:38:38 PM »
In reference to the discussion about hip hop artists using horrible rock like Coldplay (which I don't is that bad) and The Police (also not really worthy of the "horrible" distinction) I would just like to say:

I am a Phil Collins fan. No irony here.  Just a fan.  Have been since I was a kid (early 80s).

Who wants to fight me? I'll go to mat for my man Phil.

Are you a fan of his work on Disney's Tarzan?

If you can honestly say that you saw 'Buster' when it was in theatres, then I will respect your claim as a fan.

I got your back, Josh, we've got all the CD's, he's Carol from Knoxville's favorite singer, I DID see Buster in theaters, and we've even seen him live 2 or 3 times. I've had a fondness for the ugly little troll since I saw him at Vanderbilt in 1978 (I think) on Genesis's Wind and Wuthering tour. He's like the uncle you still like DESPITE the fact that he can be a dick at the Thanksgiving dinner. We called ours William Earle, God bless his soul.

Haha, no, just fun and games, Spoony. I thought it would be ironic juxtaposition with my violence-is-never-justified-except-in-self-defense position in a concurrent thread. I guess I just needed a moment of tough talk to feel like a real man? How sad.

Seriously, Phil Collins is just about the absolutely most irritating recording artist I can think of. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, after all, this is coming from a guy who laughs out loud at Andy Milonakis. You can draw your own conclusions.

In fairness, I should add that I kinda liked Coldplay a lot when I first heard them. I thought, this is great! Radiohead for the masses! And then realized months later that it is really sort of music made for light rock radio. It's funny how fine that line can be sometimes, for a less-than-discerning indie rock listener such as myself. I can't say I really dislike them at this point however.

Now that there's no FOTChan, I was wondering when the two-fisted posting would manifest on the regular board. No outlet!

I hear you Fido. But I'm also teasing Josh. He's like a gunslinger, itchin' for a brawl... and posting the most inflammatory remark that he could. Or like dropping a brick in the pinball champ's favorite machine.

Josh can't take the peace and quiet!

I am no fan of Phil Collins. But my god, is that picture of him cracking me up.

American Psycho made me an unironic fan of Huey Lewis, Phil Collins, and pretty much everything else Bateman was into.
