I knew John Junk was too cowardly to answer.

How dare you.  I actually had things to do for a few hours.

Last.fm blows because it slows down my entire computer, copies everything I listen to and makes it part of my stats which makes me self-conscious about something I should be doing for relaxation and enjoyment, and as far as I can tell, you can't listen to your own "station" unless you pay them money.  It seems absolutely insane to me to pay money for this thing.  I'm also just not that hot on the idea of constantly sharing what you're listening to with everybody at all times, because I feel like it's an occasion to judge and it also makes everything a facilitation of consumption; i.e. so-and-so likes this stuff, i need to now listen to it and buy their album.  Let me try and hear some tracks by them!  Oops, first I have to listen to four other marginally-related bands on their band-related "station" before hearing some totally arbitrary cut that may or may not be indicative of their overall sound.

Nice comeback.

I just don't put that much importance on it myself.

I think most people see last.fm as a place to show off your music. But, it's a lot more than that. You can listen to stations of everything you have ever listened to (as long as it's in their library) or go to you friends libraries and listen to everything they've ever listened to. That's the sole reason I use last.fm, I never even look at charts or recommendations.

I dunno, man.  You seem too neurotic about music (and sorta angry?) for the site to be of any appeal to you.  It's not them, it's you.  Sorry, double J, I'm a fan.

You are entitled to your opinion.

I'm not, but you are.

I think that Grote and I are also both too crazy for last.fm, as we discussed here:

I am pretty crazy, but when it comes to recreational/obsessive web stuff, inertia takes over.  This board and my blog are the only internet things I haven't abandoned after a few months, or in the case of Facebook or Last.fm, I just leave it and stop paying attention to it.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.
