sweet eBay wins
« on: September 20, 2008, 09:18:55 PM »
Sweet, I just won "85 Titles from the Little Blue Book Series Nice Set!!!"

The Little Blue Books are the subject of this recent article in The Believer, and were (among?) the first mass-market, low-cost paperbacks, and a 1920s phenomenon.

Things I've won in the past:

* 19th century dental equipment
* collection of back issues of Maximum Rock'n'Roll
* but mostly junk I've regretted buying

What's the coolest thing you've ever won on eBay?

Of the two things I've bought on eBay, the Arcade Fire/LCD Soundsystem 7-inch.

(On a side note, I finally heard "Kid eBay" yesterday. Amazing. Aside from the shrieks of pain, it's a lot like how I imagine their real-life calls.)

I bought a set of used stereo speakers with subwoofer for 99 cents when I was acutely broke and used for almost 2 years straight.

Nice. Two years ago, my Mother bought a Calloway Great Big Bertha 10º Hawkeye Titanium for twenty bucks at a garage sale in Rumson. When she came to the realization that it was almost as tall as her, she gave it to me.

 Hello, 200 yards.

the best thing about the golf club: when I started playing the 1st time, it was the club that I wanted sooooo bad, but I was broke.  Now, I'm getting better and I decided to go semi-old school with my clubs just to simplify and make it so that I have to work on getting better and not just try to rely on new equipment.

I just picked up a Big Bertha Warbird Heaven Wood (7 wood) for $20, also.

Let's totally turn the FOT into a golf forum.  That'll teach everybody else.

Best golf thing won on ebay was a TaylorMade gap wedge.  And a ridiculously expensive 1983 Nerf golf set.  Why, I don't know.  I broke the clubs in my old one.  Don't judge.

I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I've compiled my whole home sound system other than my receiver on Craigs List. I think I paid 20 bucks for my center speaker, 10 bucks for the L/R and 50 bucks for surrounds and a subwoofer. All of the speakers are off brands but all have great range and good sound.

Shipping for that stuff on Ebay is pretty bad. Were you able to get a good deal on it?

I won the double vinyl of Black Foliage by Olivia Tremor Control for £2.50 ($4.50/5 ish?) and I also won the amp head I use to this day; a Watkins ER100, which is louder than several consecutive nuclear wars, for £35.

Once I was searching for terms like “What the fuck” and “What is it” on eBay and came across a taxidermied imaginary animal that was made from leftover animal parts lying around a taxidermists’ shop. Like, a duck body with big owl eyes and paws and a weird tail. And it was only $10. And I didn’t bid on it. And I’ve regretted it ever since.
I'm warning you with peace and love.
