I can relate to Dave's uneasy relationship w/ country music.  I'm not from the South, but Indiana may as well be.  People there (many) suffer from a phobia of being confused with the stereotypical hick which provokes knee-jerk declarations of 'loving all music except country'.  After discovering bluegrass wasn't so bad and witnessing general widespread respect for Johnny Cash's work I realized it was kind of dum to dismiss all country music that way, although I'm not a born-again country fanatic, either.

I hated most music in the seventies till punk came along.  You try living through the advent of disco without crying.  I dare you.
