So I couldn't resist.  I had to listen to it, too.  Honestly, I just skipped through it to collect some bits and pieces.

The most telling part of the broadcast is when 28 year old Frangry admits that her best friend didn't watch television until she was, GASP! 20 years old.

"She wasn't allowed to watch television until she was 20 and she missed out on A LOT of things, let me tell you.

"Shes my favorite person in the whole world, BUT a lot of the time we'll be talking about stuff and she'll be like, 'What?  What's... MTV?'  You know?"

Tom would GOMP a person who spoke like that, plain and simple.  I waffle between who I hate more.  Andy is the obvious choice because he's rambling to the point that you can predict the swerves in his conversation before he does.  But I think this Frangry is worse.  She's a simple-minded girl who really thinks she's complicated.

Okay, enough ranting.  Done.

To be fair, it usually takes a long time for talk show hosts to develop their craft.  Andy and Frangry have been on the radio for precisely three hours.  On the other hand, I think a lot of the criticism of their show is legitimate.  You don't see any anti-Night People or The Acousmatic Theater Hour threads on here.

thats because this board is full of suckups

I'll totally admit to sucking up to Jason G.  I mean, he has his own website and stuff.

Listening to shut up wierdo on the archives, and it is more boring than Public Radio fundraising. The woman's voice sounds shrill and irritating and his voice sounds like he belongs talking loudly and nasally on an iPhone at a Starbucks.

The title of the show alone sounds like a podcast that someone made in March 2005 and abandoned the project a couple of episodes later.

Ew.

EDIT: Oh, and Hi everyone (first post)! I've been listening to the podcast for more than a year now, here in Helsinki... Sometimes even live, but it is VERY late here. I am definitely a friend of Tom!

I hate to say something nice about that show, but it inspired me to make my own weekly podcast hour. It's going to be awesome! How much do microphones cost? Can I just use the one that came with the karaoke machine?

I just listened to an hour of Be Quiet, Jerk in the WFMU Archives.

That thing needs some re-tooling.  The only good part of the show was when that one guy DID prank them and proclaim that Tom Scharpling is the King of WFMU and Frangry said he was the best caller ever ... Or at least it would have been if she hadn't gone on to say that about at least three more callers as the show progressed.

Look, I don't hate Andy and Frangry.  I even thought that it was pretty funny that Andy had his kid in the studio.  But I hope that, for their sakes, they go back to the drawing board and remember to KISS THE RING before returning to the airwaves.

Frangry's "Oh, THAT explains it" when Julie Marguerite said that she was from Chillicothe, OH was telling. I guess the descriptor "East coast snob" needs to be added in front of "raunchy jerk."

SO TRUE!

I have a new, genuine appreciation of Julie from Cincinnati Marguerite from Chillicothe, but I imagine Mr. Scharpling will have a different opinion.

Oh, I see what you mean, though. His opinion will be different because some FOTs made the enemy's show interesting. Now people might listen again.

I didn't want to admit this, but Marguerite happens to be my sister (we're Irish twins!) and she has a dog named Yetta, too. It's a joke we have between us, but you would have to be our irish twin to understand. Although I really can't be responsible for what she does, I should have more strongly discouraged her from calling. I'm not sure anything I said would have made a difference, though. She probably meant no harm and only called because she's a huge fan of TBS, too. She and I both hated to see Tom Scharpling disrespected. I never would have crossed the line like she did, but you could hear for yourself that she's kind of slow. She got the looks and I got the brains.

I also have a MySpace page.  I'm very bona fide!

I really do appreciate the fact that no one has trashed the show before we've actually been on the air.  I've listened to the show, and it's definitely a first show -- I'm surprised by how stiff I sound.  Part of it is that radio is really, really hard, and another part of it is that Karinne is all sexy-voiced and mysterious like Dorian and (our sometime 3rd host) Danny and I are more goofy, in the bantery Andy Breckman vein.  And the stuff we're playing is something like the Dusty Show, Kenny G, or Bryce.  So basically we have to figure out how to take this thing that's like when you're a kid and you mix all the food on your cafeteria tray, but all the food is WFMU shows, and make it into a kind of delicious radio gumbo.

Also: when the mic was off, Danny and I made some great jokes about Beckett that cracked us all up, but once it got turned on, we got totally spooked.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

MY GOD Frangry. In one episode:

1. East-coast snobbery
2. Claims to be a "blogger of note"
3. "I don't own a TV"
4. "Well, I do, but I never watch it!"
5. "I just use it to play my Nintendo NES"   (made sure to point out it was an NES so we'll all know she's super hip and retro)

Andy Cohen seems like a nice fella, though.

I like her talking to a 17 year-old about drinking...

"You're DEFINITELY missing out..."

I guess this is not a family program like The Best Show.

...in all honesty, I don't think I'll be listening to this show.  It reminds me of when I worked at the Conde Nast company, in a really really bad way.

I forgot about that, but the telling the kid to drink while she was babysitting was actually kind of disgusting, given the whole of the circumstances with the possible fire before that etc.

Thumbs down, rookie.
