Fuck man, sorry to hear that.

Not to drum up false hopes, but what program was it? Sometimes there are ways to recover that stuff.

apple's logic studio. usually generates a backup, but it didn't. a big loss but not a huge issue, and now i just don't even want to go near it for a while.

Apple's Pages sucks at that too.  No autosave.  I never use it for long writing projects even though its UI is so much slicker and it performs so much better than Word 08.

I feel for you. I too have had occasions where I had to redo my work because I didn't save it before my computer decided to crash on me. Over the years though, I've developed an obsessive habit of hitting Ctrl+S/Apple+S several times a minute.
"You want me to recognize you and I won't. I won't acknowledge you! I deny you. So you keep begging and begging. The door is slammed on you. I want nothing to do with you. You will die unrecognized by me."

I love the delete button. I regularly delete things that took me days to do and then regret it. The save button doesn't help with this. What should I do? Jump off a bridge?
I have a long history of booing

I think that's what the "undo" button is for.
