YAY: Minnesota voted for Obama.
BOO: the 6th District re-elected Michelle Bachmann. A lot of people are going to attempt to use that as proof that Minnesota is full of crazy assholes, but every town inside its borders is a suburban enclave that has nothing to do with the culture that gave us Prince and the Coen Brothers and Husker Dude. Less flattering is the fact that Norm Coleman (imagine Diamond Joe Quimby from the Simpsons, only opportunist enough to actually switch parties) has apparently beaten Al Franken by less than 400 votes. This is gonna result in a mandatory recount, the results of which aren't going to manifest themselves until December, and it's going to result in the ugliest couple months in Minnesota political history.

Oklahoma is the only state in the country that didn't have one county go in favor of Obama.

Virginia now has two democratic senators, a democratic governor, and democratic control of the State Senate and State House.
We also gave our electoral votes to a Democrat for the first time since 1964.

Unbelievable.

Not only did Colorado go thoroughly blue and elect a Democratic senator, we kicked the awful Marilyn Musgrave out of the House.

My own district just elected the first openly gay House member.

From Colorado?  Cuz Barney Frank's been out since 1987.

Oh, and the Republican senator was voted back in, but that was bound to happen.

The GOP would do wisely to learn from her example, while soul-searching for its future identity.

Also one of my classmates (a 3L at CU Law) was just elected regent of the University of Colorado.

The problem with the 6th district is that it's huge and a lot of cities don't get represented fairly. Blue collar suburban cities have to have the same representative as the people out in the far edge of the suburbs with lots of land and it goes all the way into St. Cloud and areas around St. Cloud that feel no connection to the cities. They need to rework those boundaries in a big way.

I didn't think the Senate race could get any uglier than it was- easily the ugliest race I've ever witnessed, but it has. At least I can avoid it for the most part and don't have to listen to them beating each other up in the middle of sitcom reruns.

While I'm glad that CA supported Obama instead of McCain, considering how voters here are voting on the Propositions so far, California can fall into a sinkhole for all I care. Just frickin' sink.

You passed Prop. 2 (the one that outlaws veal pens and stuff), at least. That's great news!

That's true. I was happy that passed. One of the few things we got right.

But Prop. 8 also passed. And so did a high-speed rail bill. The majority of voters would rather have an expensive rail system, than give people equal rights. I've officially lost all faith in humanity.

Don't lose faith in humanity.  Humanity is (very slowly) getting better.  The majority of voters are old fucks.  They'll die soon and the world will be all the better for it.
