Wurster in a Reichardt Film
« on: January 21, 2009, 10:24:08 AM »
Has any FOT ever seen the Kelly Reichardt film Ode?  It's a short made in 1999 and apparently Jon Wurster is in it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276370/

I'm a big fan of Reichardt and obviously Wurster, but I can't find this movie anywhere!  If anyone has any idea on how to obtain a copy of it let me know.

Also for anyone in the Philadelphia area Kelly Reichardt will be giving a talk at Swarthmore:

The Dept of English Literature and the Program in Film and Media Studies
at Swarthmore College Present
An evening with Filmmaker Kelly Reichardt and Writer Jon Raymond

Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 pm, Science Center 101

Featuring clips from Reichardt's films, excerpts from Raymond's stories,
and conversation.

Reichardt's Wendy and Lucy (opening in Philadelphia 1/23/2009), co-written
with Raymond and based on his short story, "Train Chorus," appeared on
more than 60 top ten lists for 2008
(http://www.filmforum.org/films/wendy.html">http://www.filmforum.org/films/wendy.html>).
The two previously collaborated on Reichardt's equally acclaimed Old Joy.
Raymond graduated from Swarthmore in 1994 and is the author of the novel
Half Life and the new collection of stories, Livability.

Perhaps, I'll see some FOT's there.

Yeah, ever since he flipped out and threw a phone at that hotel maid the tabloids have been having a field day.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

So, ah, nobody has ever seen this movie huh?  I went to my local independently owned video store here, they often have everything even if it's a ratty old VHS, and the clerk behind the counter looked at me cross eyed when I asked about it.

If anybody cares I went to the Reichardt talk and she actually showed a clip from Ode.  The clip did not have Wurster in it.  The movie was shot on Super 8 in North Carolina and it will probably never get a proper video release.  Reichardt described it as a "gay after school special".

I did see Wendy and Lucy over the weekend though, and it was fantastic!  I'm going to call Call Screener Mike's show this week and talk to him about it.  I'll bet he loved it!

I care, but I don't really have anything to contribute. I'm looking forward to seeing Wendy & Lucy. If you ever do get any further news about Ode, please do share it. Surely they could stick it on a dvd as an extra?
