The 2009 Gene Wilder - Charles Grodin Summit and my idea for Clifford 2.

Did anyone else see this in the a/v club?  Pretty good article.

It made me think of an idea for Clifford 2.  Mary Steenburgen's nephew, played by Wilder, comes to stay with the couple for the summer and becomes locked in a vicious battle for supremacy with Clifford over who the favorite nephew is.  It would be called Clifford 2: King of the Mountain.  It begins in the future with Clifford and Wilder as old men sitting in rocking chairs, discussing how great their friendship is in an effort to convince two young boys from feuding.  Cut to Steenburgen and Grodin in the present, welcoming Clifford and his Dad, Richard Kind.  Clifford has made a tradition of staying with his aunt and uncle when his father travels for business and he comes to find out there will be a new tradition starting:  Wilder will be staying with them as well, while his parents are on a cruise.  The feud between Wilder and Clifford ensues.  It climaxes with Clifford and Wilder trying to strangle each other at Dinosaur World and then teaming up to save Charles Grodin (Uncle Martin) from a murderous, drug-crazed Dabney Coleman, who stalks the halls of his architecture firm with a baseball bat.  Back to the old men, disagreeing on wether the weapon was a baseball bat or a billy club they start strangling each other and the young boys run away.

Wow!  This is an impressive film.  Certainly lives up to the promise of the original.  But who will play Gene Wilder's parents?  Bonnie Hunt and Jeff Fahey maybe?  Jeff Goldblum and Cheryl Hines?  The possibilities are endless.

I have yet to read that article, but I have actually had my own idea for Clifford 2 for years. Ever since I saw Over the Top, I for some reason imagined a remake with Grodin and Short, and it'd basically be Clifford 2. My only idea for it really is that you'd only ever see Grodin take on weenies before the competition (when he's on the road and such), and it would end with him getting to the contest and instantly losing; like it wouldn't be a contest in the slightest. The credits roll immediately after his loss.

This would be pretty awesome.  Who would Martin Short play?  What about Steenburgen?
