Just found this article but haven't read it yet.  Perhaps the answer is in here, perhaps it isn't.  Still looks like a fun read.

This movie was excellent, and not really all that depressing in the end.
I started to cringe once Paul got into the car to drive down to Philly, and then in the bar, but the payout of that whole scene was so great and unexpected.

Some of the comments at Big Fan's IMDb page are hilarious: "a story that doesn't have a change at the end, isn't a real story".

The soundtracks pretty great does anybody know the song that played while Paul was driving to Philly near the end?

I don't remember the song, but I was very pleased to hear "Big White Cloud" by John Cale featured elsewhere, since it is one of my favorite songs.

It was an older song kind of in the same vein as the John Cale song. I wish there was soundtrack listing for this movie all i could find were a couple of songs listed but not all of them.

Do you still have the DVD? All of the songs are listed in the ending credits, so you can probably narrow it down at the least.

Yeah i was thinking of that the other night after i got offline "duh just look at the end credits".

I agree with YOUR sentiments.  Not with those trolls at imdb*.  I found the ending very satisfying.

*I have started so many false rumors** and played devil's advocate so many times on IMDb, that I don't bother to take anything seriously on that page.

**My most famous being the rumor that Marv (Mickey Rourke) from Sin City was actually Wolverine after he ran away from the X-Men, cut his hair, and vowed to never use his claws again.  People went nuts over that.  I'm happy to say that since finding the Best Show boards, I haven't bothered with the IMDb boards so much.

I was wrong about the song. The song i was thinking of was the song that plays when he walks into the bar in slow motion. It starts out with a little guitar noodle when hes out on the street and then turns into an old 70's soul/funk/rock song when he walks in. I looked at the credits and the writing is to small i cant read what it says i believe the song is "In the C.....let" by R......... B....r Any help? Maybe somebody has a better tv than mine that will show the credits clearer.

Oh yeah and Michael Rapaport was great in this.

I was psyched when I realized that Philadelphia Phil's voice was Rapaport.  I don't love the guy, but I never dislike him either.  He just makes me laugh.  A friend of mine has his phone number and once a year I'll listen while he pranks Rapaport's answering machine, which always has a new freestyle rap on it.

No zoom button on your remote to help with those credits?

Rappaport seems to be able to only do one thing, but it was perfect for this role.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Finally saw it, what an awesome movie. Take away the sports aspect and this could be the story of any number of FOTs!

I agree with the person that said Michael Rapaport is an exact fit for this. It's like he just came to terms with always playing some version of himself, and went full bore obnoxious Rapaport for this. The character is like a drill to the brain pan, perfectly so.

You're only mad because I spit truth. Seriously, the whole time I was watching it (and re-watching it), I kept thinking all we would need is a feud of football proportions for this to become a frightening reality. Also, Tom may have to kick someone in the back of the head a couple times. But still, you know I'm not wrong!

It is true. Patton mentioned the Best Show in his interview with Terry Gross when she asked about where he found inspiration to play a radio show caller. The phrase "fringe magnet" was used.

As we were watching it, my wife wondered if Patton prepared for the role by pretending Stan Lee kicked him in the nuts.

I just watched it last night and it gave me the tip of scripting and rehearsing my calls into the Best Show. Does anyone know where I can get some WFMU sheets with the names of all the shows all over them? My mom wants to buy me some for my birthday.
