Is Peter Bagge making comics anymore?
I would love to have some more stuff from him.

Apocalypse Nerd is pretty good.  He mostly does cranky libertarian comics for Reason magazine, nowadays.

A book of his cranky libertarian pieces was just published. It looks pretty good to me, but I've only read one of the things in it.

What is up with his Founding Fathers comics?  It's not quite as demented as anything Frank Miller's been up to for the past decade or so, but still, I can't figure it out.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I think it's charming when science fiction writers, comic book artists, and actors turn nutty.

Chester Brown recently ran for public office on the Libertarian ticket. At least it hasn't worked its way into his comics yet, though. Steve Ditko's a nut, too (an Objectivist!)

Yeah, if you ever want a detour into true madness, try to find some of Ditko's prose on the internet or in Douglas Wolk's book Reading Comics

I used to be charmed by insane SF/comics writers, but then last month I tried rereading Robert A. Heinlein's Number of the Beast.  Terrible, terrible mistake.

Re. Apocalypse Nerd: it was good, but I found it totally depressing.

I've been meaning to read Heinlein's earlier stuff, is it any good?

Honestly, I've never been able to get through any of it, but I've never even tried Stranger in a Strange Land.  I read Number of the Beast back when I was like 10 and I think I mostly just liked his endless descriptions of boobs and the parallel earth conceit -- it's otherwise unreadable.

Really funny cartoon, BTW, thanks for posting.  I didn't even know it existed.

Peter Bagge's got a new trade out now - Everybody is Stupid Except for me - a collection of comic strips he did for libertarian magazine Reason. Most, if not all, the strips are available online and they are absolutely hysterical. I'm glad they're accessible now because I can't think of a single newsstand that sold Reason (it's hard enough to find Kerrang). I also cannot recommend enough Bagge's deservedly acclaimed series Hate which chronicles the hilarious exploits of misanthrope Buddy Bradley from Seattle to New Jersey. I recommend it to everyone, comics-lovers and newbies alike, and never miss an opportunity to pick up a Hate trade for a friend or loved one.
