Hall of Fame nominees
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:47:51 PM »
ABBA
The Chantels
Jimmy Cliff
Genesis
The Hollies
KISS
LL Cool J
Darlene Love
Laura Nyro
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Stooges
Donna Summer

Whoops I clicked post before I was done.

But now all I can think to say about the Red Hot Chili Peppers making the list is "whuh."

Whoever ends up making the final cut, the all-star finale is guaranteed to be a humdinger.

I thought this was for The Best Show Hall of Fame.

How about Iggy Pop's solo career. Would you let him in based on that?

It is a very Best Show list, isn't it? Wasn't Iggy already in? I seem to remember him and Madonna standing next to each other for pictures last year. Do I have that wrong?

I thought the same thing, but it looks like we're confusing him with either John Mellencamp or Leonard Cohen.
You'll like it in hell; it's a lot like New Jersey.

Seriously? I don't like the band either but I think there are only a handful of bands in their time frame that were more successful than they have been.

No doubt - but it's not the only way to measure a band's worth, right? and for that matter, success itself can be measured in many different ways.

What has RHCP contributed to music besides $$$$? I can't really think of a band who would count them as an influence - am I missing some band that the young peoples are listening to these days?

Oh, ABBA and KISS sharing a stage, that's like a Best Show dream come true. Or nightmare, I don't know which.
Too soon?

I totally get what you are saying but every band that has been as successful as them (except the Monkees!) has made it in from what I see. Arena bands are rarely influential or maybe they are influential to the next generation of arena bands but you can't deny the fan base. U2, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Dave Matthews Band... love it or hate it those are the best selling artists of this generation and they will all be in the hall of fame. What I wonder is who's left after those bands and a few of the alt acts like Radiohead and Beck and when they'll start inducting country pop/rock acts. The hall has not been known to dig into the non mainstream barrel but you'd think they would have to in the future since critical acclaim is changing. The Grammys haven't caught on yet, but when bands of today are up for induction you wouldn't think a band like Animal Collective who has received pretty much universal acclaim would be passed over for the Black Eyed Peas.

Whenever the topic of legendary rock and roll comes up, the next 3 words you always hear are "LL", "Cool" and "J".

I'm stealing that line for my Facebook status.

Yes Auntie you are wrong.

Madonna had him sing her songs to show the injustice of his exclusion.

Screw those yahoos.

Madonna is rock and roll?

It stopped being just rock and roll a long time ago. Instead of inducting the trailblazers they decided to find platinum artists in different genres. Just knowing that The Stooges aren't in already discredits the entire hall.

I know, I don't know why I'm all p.o.ed about RHCP when this whole thing is just ridiculous. I have an irrational hatred for that band and get really mad when anyone praises them.

I listened to the stooges all day yesterday, really loud, as a proper protest.
