Nardwuar is an international treasure.  His Pansy Division reference after Tom mentioned treating callers with a carrot or a stick was delightful.

Also: Was I hallucinating or did Nard really mention Enuff Z'Nuff and Danger Danger?  For a second I thought that perhaps I was on the air.

It was beyond exhausting listening to that interview at four in the morning. Never heard of Narduwar before yesterday and so felt a bit trampled by his motormouth (which did remind me of Michael K on speed, the circular breathing is definitely there), and his constant breaching of Best Show etiquette (although to be fair he probably didn't know that). Also I got all stupidly defensive after a bunch of people in the chat started going "WHAAAAT? You've NEVER heard about this genius before?!?!?". I'm sure he's a good guy, it was just an overwhelming first impression (in the very worst sense).

My favorite part of Nardwuar's Best Show appearance was that he KEPT SAYING JW's name, and you could hear Tom struggling between doing his usual "Who's that?" and being courteous to a guest who he clearly admires. His whispered, mumbled answers to questions about JW made me laugh even while I felt uncomfortable for him.

Yep it was a classic Nardwuar interview. I'd lay money on him knowing that Wurster isn't mentioned on air.

You know what, I bet you're right.

Re: Best Show etiquette breach, I think at this point in the show's history, a guest mentioning "Jon Wurster," especially in the context of him being a drummer in the "real world" -- which he is! -- barely registers.  In the case of Nardwuar, he did make a reference to JW being Tom's "co-host," but he was basically just trying to determine if JW played drums with A.C. Newman* on the John McEnroe program.

*He didn't.  Carl chose Tico Torres for that performance.

His band the Evaporators stayed at my punkhouse in 1994. We didn't really know who he was and I kind of lumped in into the pile of fun / weird bands that don't get much success. Then he fell off my radar for 15 years. My point is that he has been as this a looong time and has obviously worked his tail off. He seems to have such a knowledge and respect for the art and the artists (which reminds of Tom and JW).

(Yes, I'm braggin' but where else could I ever share a Nardwuar anecdote?)

I tuned in at the end of the show last night and was 100% certain Nardwuar was a JW character. The only thing that made me question that as the call progressed was Tom's response to him.  I kept waiting for the call to get JW-call-like (probably in the form of Tom being unable to get the guy to stop talking and end the call) but it never happened. I was shocked when Nardwaur turned out to be a real person.  Even after seeing a description of him on Wikipedia during the call, I thought "Wow, Tom and Jon went far with this one, so far that they created a Wikipedia page around him."

I love Nardwar, but he's exhausting. Of course, this makes for some amazing interviews with people who have no idea what he's about. I think Courtney Love is one of the funnier ones.

Naduwar's interview with Beck was amazing, "Why are you such a loser?, you seem like everybody likes you, Whats it like being the spokesman of a generation?"

Also the one with Alice Cooper is pure gold.

Can't wait to listen to the Podcast on this one.

I think getting interviewed by Nardwuar probably feels something like this:

I also remember one w/Henry Rollins where he keeps asking him if all the coffee he drinks makes him have to poop constantly.

Nardwuar is an international treasure.

What is the likelihood that this is related to that movie N. Cage was filming at FMU Studios?

Hold on a second -- is he really NOT a JW character?  I was listening at work today and was almost 100% sure he was, moreso because he mentioned JW. I feel like this is some sort of elaborate hoax!

Dan,  you said and I quote: I feel like this is some sort of elaborate hoax!

I had that very same feeling about a similar situation many years ago....

It wasn't.

I wished it was.
