Mr. Wurster laying down the beats for Ben Gibbard & Jay Farrar
« on: October 27, 2009, 03:54:47 PM »
I saw the Jack Kerouac concert last night in Chicago. REALLY good show at a cool, new (intimate) club called Lincoln Hall. Lots of things to like...won't list them all. I liked the pairing of cheerful, talkative Ben and a kind of sour-puss (but still great) Jay. They made for an interesting combo. I'm a relatively new fan of the Best Show and it was the first time I'd seen Jon in any setting. I thought he was fantastic! I'm no drum geek, but it looked and sounded like it must have been a fun show to play...a full range of heavy, bombastic drumming to more subtle, quieter percussion. Extra special was meeting Jon for a brief moment after the show and getting a Best Show poster signed. He couldn't have been a nicer guy.

I'm jealous.  I wanted to go to the Chicago show but couldn't make it.  Oh, well.  At least I got to watch them on KCRW on the live feed the other day. :)
Doing it Mentos style.

Wish I had gone.  I saw Ted Leo & the Pharmacists the night before and I was really impressed with Lincoln Hall.  Looks like they have a solid lineup of shows so I hope it's successful.

Looks like All Songs Considered has a webcast of tonight's DC show.  I'm sure it'll show up in the live show podcast feed later this week.

I would love to go this show, but they've snubbed JW's adopted hometown again.  Boo hoo.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

saw the inaugural show in Los Angeles and it was very very very very very good, and I even said hi to mr. wurster.  jay seemed quite affable that evening even. they got to me (i'm a soft touch) with their final song, Tom Waits' "Old Shoes (and Picture Postcards)" and had me wiping my eyes, but that was partly just some of my own shit going on.
They also did a super cool version of Farrar's "Voodoo Candle".
Loved it.

yes, i'm braggin' a lil' bit.

Does Jon play drums on the album too?
