THE END OF MUSIC
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:27:08 AM »
Hang it up, everybody - Glen Branca has declared that "music" is officially dead:

http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/24/the-end-of-music/

It was good while it lasted, guys. Last person out, please turn off the lights on your way out.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

Douglas Rushkoff mentioned on Media Squat Monday, there is not a genre a music for this decade.  You know the difference between 20s music and 60s music.  Even the 90s had their own "sound".  There is no distinct sound of this decade.

I believe he blamed the internet!

Sounds like someone's upset about being irrelevant.

If music's ending, that must mean musical taste's ending. Now what are people going to snarkily judge others by?

Of course, the ridiculousness of the fact that it's Glenn Branca saying this - the man responsible for some of the most tuneless, irritating, pretentious non-music of the century - goes without saying, right?

To be honest, if the death of music meant that Glenn Branca would also stop making music, I'd almost take that as a fair tradeoff.

Oh, the internet provides. We may have to wait for maybe 10 seconds depending on your computer's refresh rate.

It took Glenn Branca until now to figure this out?  Kevin Allin passed on a long time ago.

I may or may not steal this line if I repost this article elsewhere.

Pat K, this is the single best post that I have ever read on this board. 100% OTM.

For more than half a century we’ve seen incredible advances in sound technology but very little if any advance in the quality of music.

Oh, good heavens.  I send my condolences to music's family.
