The Thing With Two Heads
« on: December 29, 2009, 11:33:40 PM »
They transplanted a white bigot's head on a soul brother's body!

MOST INTERESTING PART:  The casual way that the three heroic characters decide they are going to cut off the Doctor's head.

Also the sexy nurse.

LONGEST SCENE: Motocross!

I love 70s low budget cinema.  They had so little in the way of budget, and they managed to not spend enough of it on writing anyway!
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

The movie that should have made Rosey Grier a star.

Ray Milland was rather a terrible actor, awards notwithstanding.  Even Rosey couldn't carry him.

Oh, lord.  I promise you that pun was not intended.  Still, it's what came out of my head, and I'm letting it stand.

I like him in The Big Clock.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I like Ray Milland. I think X - The Man with the X-Ray Eyes is genuinely good, one of Roger Corman's best. He's also good in The Lost Weekend, even if I'm not crazy about the film itself (or Billy Wilder). Also highly recommended: the one-of-a-kind 50's noir The Thief. Why? Because of this:

"The Thief is one of the few films with synchronized sound to be made completely without spoken dialog."

I think he was pretty one-note.  Especially as he got older.

Just out of curiosity, what's your problem with Billy Wilder? He's one of my favorites.

There's just a disconnect, can't really explain it. And he's universally loved. Seems like a good guy. Which makes it even weirder. But it's something about his movies... I just can't connect. There's a few exceptions: Sunset Blvd, I guess The Apartment...

I have the same situation with Truffaut - love all the other new wave-ers, no patience at all for Truffaut. One of these days I'll make a proper analysis as to why.

I understand not liking someone you should. I have no use for Godard at all, and I suppose as a film fan I should.

I haven't seen everything Wilder did, but Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Some Like It Hot, Sunset Blvd., The Apartment, One Two Three and The Fortune Cookie are all among my all-time favorites.

Wilder is one of my faves as well.  I love his work in Silver Streak.

It's alright to cry.

I don't think Rosey would want me to do that.

The man did needlepoint.  I think he'd be okay with a few tears shed on his behalf.

Once again, Sparks you and I are on le same page: just cannot get into Godard, in fact he sort of makes me mad. There are maybe 2 I liked that I can think of: Alphaville and Bout de Souffle.

As for Wilder, he's one of my faves too, but there are some who dismiss everything post-Charles Brackett, which, actually I can kinda see. There are some seriously bad cornball jokes in all the Diamond collaborations; the Brackett stuff is way more corrosive.

One that I absolutely loved you can't find on video, at least the last time i checked - would this be on some whack torrent site? A Foreign Affair w/Dietrich and Jean Arthur. I think they filmed it in Allied-occupied Berlin; I remember it looking all bombed out.

Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?
