Yeah, I was going to say the In-Laws, too. Also:

Idiocracy
Black Dynamite - I just saw this the other day. It's really funny, and has some great kung fu.
The Daytrippers
Funny Bones

I'm sure more will come to me...

A Shot in the Dark
The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and other Preston Sturges films
Trouble in Paradise

Few contemporary movies fit my own idea of "pure" fun.  That is, something that isn't mediocre or outright lousy but is relatively free of cynicism, neurosis, angst, irony, etc.  Fantastic Mr. Fox is a rare exception.

3 movies that have been on my mind lately:

Harvey - Jimmy Stewart's unfailing, almost-superhuman politeness and friendliness in this movie is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Good movie for easter time, also.

Zulu - I've been on a Michael Caine kick lately and I just watched this the other week. When I want big dumb escapism, this is a movie I frequently reach for. Just 2 hours of British dudes in a fort fending off wave after wave after wave of bloodthirsty Zulus - great for a lazy afternoon.

Cleopatra Jones - Shelley Winters' performance in this as "Mommy", a foulmouthed lesbian drug lord, is one of the great treasures of Western culture. Sooo, soo much fun.

I will also vigorously second the nominations of Raising Arizona, A Shot In The Dark, Idiocracy, and The Story Of Ricky.  Oh man, how on earth could I have forgetten The Story of Ricky.
I'm warning you with peace and love.

I am also going through Newsradio on Netflix watch instantly. It has aged remarkably well.

For 'fun' movies, I have to say Hot Fuzz makes me so happy deep down in my soul. A great film even apart from the satirical elements that makes it a parody.

Corman's Bucket of Blood is really fun and still a relevant send up of 'hipster' (in this case, beatnik) culture.

On Hulu, there are two decent documentaries: Summer Camp! (which is about, you guessed it, a summer camp) and Billy the Kid (it's like freaks and geeks the documentary).

The Security Door episode of Newsradio may be my favorite episode of any television comedy.

I recently watcehd Out of Sight, I thought that was a good/fun movie.

Billy The Kid is a phenomenal documentary, but I don't know if I'd use the term "fun" to describe my viewing experience, so much as "made me so uncomfortable that I felt sick to my stomach".
I'm warning you with peace and love.

Kicking and Screaming, the 1995 Noah Baumbach one.

This has been a favorite of mine since it was released. I was one of those guys who was pissed that it took forever to get a DVD release.

I will always love Evil Dead II for pure, unadulterated fun.

Army of Darkness is great too, but it seems to be going primarily for laughs, whereas Evil Dead II feels like it is just a preposterous horror movie...so preposterous you have to laugh.

The In-Laws (Serpentine.)
Slap Shot (not a hockey fan so much but I love hockey movies)
Ben Hur (which I find hilarious)
Ishtar (do not let that pseudo-insider Hollywood talk about how it went way over budget scare you off-this is some comedy gold right here)

And for sheer ridiculousness, to the point where it kind of hurts:

Eagle Shooting Heroes
The Story of Ricky

YES! The Story of Ricky! Great pick AC!
Since you're a Minnesotan, I'm going to suggest MST3k for the blues -my favorite movie being Manos:The Hands of Fate. There are quite a few available right instant-view right now. I just watched The Final Sacrifice a few days ago. Time Chasers is another favorite.

Another fan! Yas! badgrammer too!

Ricky is easier to find than Eagle Shooting Heroes, and it is so worth it. A good one for a group of people to watch. Easily one of the most ridiculous movies ever made.
