Rubicon
« on: August 08, 2010, 12:33:12 PM »
So far, I really like this show.

To an extent, it's doing the Mad Men/costume drama thing of hooking me with the props, set design, and the basic premise, but instead of with cool old suits and interior design, with piles of books and documents and secret spy stuff.  I like how this show realizes that computers showing fake Hollywood OS animations and people staring at screens all day doesn't really make for compelling watching.

Also, it moves very slowly, but not at Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy speed.  Plus it seems to be getting into Illuminati territory.

t seems to be getting into Illuminati territory.

Do you view this as a good thing or not so good?

If the latter, why?

I should have written Illuminatus! territory.

Anyway, it's a good thing in this context, though in real life I believe that stupidity and carelessness secretly control the world, not shadowy cabals.

Add fluke to the list, and I'm with you.

I've got to find a good torrent for this show.

I mentioned the Hollywood OS before.  Here is a good gallery of some of those.

I lost patience looking for a decent torrent yesterday and am resigned to waiting till this comes out on Netflix or something.  Same goes for Mad Men.

It's too sweet for me and has more calories than regular Coca Cola.

You see a lot of cyclists enjoying it after crossing the finishing line of tour stage.

I'm digging it so far. A slow burn but lots going on. Every time they show a book's title I feel like it's an important clue!

If you don't want to wait, check isohunt, and then sort by number of seeders.

I was home sick yesterday and watched this show for several hours. It grew on me. Like yesno, above, I appreciate that they barely have any computers in this show. They also go surprisingly light on shots of people thinking real hard.

My main problem with it is that whenever this guy turns up:

I find myself thinking wistfully of this guy:

The main character reminds me too much of John McEnroe i keep thinking why is a tennis champ solving crime whenever its on.

With every damn show under the sun now back and airing on Sunday Nights, I don't think I can keep up with Rubicon until it's all said and done with for the season then just have a marathon session. Bummer but man, I have like, 11 shows I watch on Sundays!

I think running against Boardwalk Empire is going to be the final nail in Rubicon's coffin.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

RUBICON is a glorious program.  I will take pretty severe action if it is canceled after this season.  I'll probably go into the wee hours with the mayhem I will inflict.
