Favorite Scharpling Impersonation (or is it 'Impression')?
« on: April 07, 2007, 08:41:26 PM »
Tim K's post about Bonaduce got me thinking: The Kid certainly has some talent doing voices! Dane Cook, Little Steven, the guy at the security desk...

Any favorites come to mind?

1.  Tom impersonating/doing an impression of an average caller to the Mike and the Mad Dog show on WFAN is hilarious to me.

2.  Tom doing an impression of a typical Top 40 DJ is kinda funny.

3.  The show from several years ago where Tom goes after Wurster's "Cheetah" character was hilarious to me.

Tom's Robin Williams impression stuck with me for a long time, refering to him hounding the UCB theater. It was just one sentance, but it was suprising and hilarious.

Also, Tom's Kevin Smith impression while discussing the Evening with Kevin Smith 2 DVD. It was oddly accurate without sounding very much like him at all.

UNFUN FACT: When I heard my first* clip of the best show, it was around the same time Kevin Smith had went and done a one-off radio show, that me and my friends made fun of a lot without actually listening to it. When my friend sent me the clip, my first reaction was that I thought it was Kevin Smith's radio show, and that poor sound quality messed with Kevin's voice (The clip was of mac getting told to get off tom's phone). I remember being suprised that Kevin Smiths radio show was actually funny.

*UNFUN FOOTNOTE: Actually, the first time I heard the Best Show was listening to Petey's Aqua Teen Hunger Force interview, and I honestly thought Tom was Petey's dad and this was some kinda radio show they did from their house. I just imagined a guy at his kitchen computer and his son calling from his bedroom, because for some reason thats the only way they can make it work. As I got more into the show I was suprised it was the same show I'd heard years before.

How dare you insult this wonderful high school radio show by insinuating that it was done by some guy from his house?!  High schools are at least .75 steps up the radio ladder from some guy's house.

I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Mimiking their voice is not Tom's forte. Rather, it is how he captures their character.
1. Judge Elihu Smails from Caddyshack (he's been perfecting this one for a long time)
2. Dom DeLuise aka Captain Chaos from Cannonball Run ("What if HIM shows up?")
3. The Gas Station Attendant/Tom Waits Fan ("Hey, man")
4. Spike (Okay, he does nail the voice for this one.)

I loved his Dante and Randall voices during his Clerks II takedown.

I know someone else asked this question on the old board and I can't remember if it ever was answered.  What show was it where Tom imitated a musical style for each decade of the 20th century?

Tom's impression of Ben Gazzara during the Road House episode (July 20, 2004) was on the money.
"You want me to recognize you and I won't. I won't acknowledge you! I deny you. So you keep begging and begging. The door is slammed on you. I want nothing to do with you. You will die unrecognized by me."

The English Music Hall bits:

* reviewing Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
* Singing "That's All" to John from Maplewood (recovering Genesis fan)

And kind of in the same ballpark, his unfair record review of Modern Times where he red-lines Dylan's creeping Leon Redbonisms.  ("I don't care what you SEAY")

When Tom Scharpling impersonated me! He did it once when I sent in the now famous* Get Off My Bone song and again when he made fun of me on the Halloween episode. Also, the Dante and Randall had me gasping.

Does Tom doing an 'impression' of a Canadian apologizing ("I'm sore-y") count?  A great GOMP ala hostile phone call from the North comes to mind.

My brother started saying "sore-y" a couple of years ago. We grew up in Miami. What's up with that? Too much Degrassi during our formative years?
