Putting Edgar Wright on the list and not Simon Pegg is very odd.

The exclusion of David Sedaris's sister, Amy, is also odd.

I did a quick scan thru the comments to see if I agreed w/any other glaring omissions. Someone mentioned Dana Gould and John Swartzwelder (has he come up before? Has anyone read his books?) but although Dana Gould is one of my favoritest comedians ever I'm sorta not surprised he wasn't on this list. He's always been pretty quiet, although in podcast land, he's around more than ever, so who knows.

Some I agreed w/who coulda or shoulda been on, depending on your taste level: Stanhope, Marc Maron, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Jim Norton, Giraldo ... some of these dudes I have not always liked, but I think they're all skilled, if you know what I mean. Shit, you could put Howard Stern on there and I wouldn't argue w/that, even though I'm realizing now I haven't heard his radio show in a long time.

Ones I'm thankful aren't on the list: Lewis Black (I think he's okay-he's gotten a laugh or two out of me in his day, but I don't think he's doing anything unique. I don't get why people think he's so brilliant.), Chelsea Handler, Carolla and of course ... The 4 Horsemen of the Comedypocalypse: Mencia, Leno, Cook & Dunham.

Didn't see any mention of any of the Blue Collar dudes, either... although I like Ron White - I think the TX accent really sells that shit. I thought some of those weird truck stop comedy records were pretty funny, where he's younger and crazier.

A couple of morons mentioned various politicians. What can you do. It's the comments section.

The Anderson Cooper thing is bizarre, but overall that list isn't as egregious as I thought it would be.

Everyone knows Brian Williams is the funniest newsman.

Oh, you know who I forgot? Bernie Mac. When he's peeling and eating that orange while listening to John Ritter's insane story in Bad Santa? Shit. Also Tom Lennon, who I think is just hysterical.

I'd put Katt Williams on that list. I'm sure I'm close to the only one around here that would.
Those Huffpo folks really dug deep in the non-white comics area.

Thanks for transcribing that list.  It was so funny and fast!  I got lost half way through and couldn't catch up!

Yeah, huge thanks I was on the train with no access and no foresight of the list.

I'd mostly agree with Tom on his opinions. Especially Gervais. The UK Office and Extras are really well written and I love them both. Especially The Office. But his stand up is not good. And he seems so irritating out of character too.

There's a guy over here called Richard Aoyade, who's been in and/or written for The IT Crowd, Garth Meringi's Darkplace, Man to Man With Dean Learner and The Mighty Boosh. I think he has a film he directed coming out this year too. He's super funny but I suspect probably not on much of a radar in the US yet.

I''m really glad Sarah Silverman is NOT on that list.

I haven't seen any of these Betty White comeback bits shes been doing, but is she really just being filthy for filth's sake now? I remember her playing dumb really well on the Golden Girls i don't think Toms giving her enough credit.

I would like to know what Tom un-specifically thinks of upcoming comedians like Kyle Kinane or Hannibal Burress.

And I'm glad that PFT got due recognition.  There was another recent list of "Best Comedians" in which he wasn't cited and that was an injustice.
