sin(hits+reached base on error-thrown out at second)

Maybe this is the stat that would finally explain the continued appeal of Nick Punto.
I'm in my late 50's.

The one thing Punto has going for him is that he never makes a mistake in the field. He always makes the right play which is valuable. That's why managers like him and let him stink it up at the plate.

I think the settings are fine where they are now. It's been cleaned up to get rid of most of the duplicates and still has non-traditional categories to make the league unique. Should be a lot of fun!

Right now it's set to 5 bench spots and two DL spots.  You can see this under "Scoring & Settings".

This is still very confusing to me. Maybe I am too old school. Can the bench spots be pitchers OR offensive players?

One of the participants has chosen to withdraw from the league. This means that there is now one opening available.

If you missed out the first time, now's your chance!

Isn't OPS (on base + total bases)/AB?

So that means it's (hits + walks + total bases)/AB

which means since we're also using BA, which is hits/AB, that we are really tracking

(2*hits + walks + total bases)/AB

as 2 categories. I am good with however we do it, but this seems to put lots of emphasis on plain old hits. Where's Pete Rose when we need him?

OPS is actually slugging + on-base. It doesn't make a lot of statistical sense.

(total bases/at-bats) + [ (hits + walks) / (at-bats + walks) ]

So Albert Pujols 2010:

OBP .414
SLG .596
OPS 1.011

Personally, I think the most "accurate" approach is to use OBP and SLG as 2 separate categories, while tossing BA. But that's a little too wonkish. I still have affinity for the "old chestunut" stats, so ditching BA completely just seems wrong.

Weird. This is not how Sportsline calculates this stat. It's not a lot different for most batters, but it is slightly different consistently

Just found this

On-Base Percentage (OBP) = (Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit By Pitch + Sacrifice Flys)

Alright!

I'm hoping we'll now have a set league.

Holy crap. It's a LIVE DRAFT? I just got an email about the scheduling of my live draft. I can't be there. What was the point of spending hours adjusting my draft rankings this week?

Holy crap, somebody get back to me and let me know what's going on here. A live draft with 20 teams could take 15 hours. I am committed to family and church stuff.

Holy crap.

I think you're all set. This is what the site says:

From this page, you can edit your pre-draft player rankings and export rankings to another team.

Player rankings are used to draft your team. If you're happy with our default order, you don't need to edit your rankings. To rank players in your own custom order, click the Edit My Rankings button.

You can export custom pre-draft player rankings to any or all of your other Fantasy Baseball teams by using the tool below. Simply select the teams you wish to copy your rankings to and hit the Export Rankings button. If you don't have available undrafted teams, this option will not be available.

Well, that's what I am hoping for, but here's the email I got from Yahoo

"This note is being sent to remind you that your team in league Guild of Calamitous Intent(90006) is scheduled to take part in a live online draft on Sun Mar 13 02:30pm EDT."
