My only hope is that the spectre of the '94 playoff run resonates enough, and that people learned from the Olympics enough not to destroy the city this time around; hopefully, the police will ease up on the rubber bullets as well.

Good to see another borderline NHL player getting the book thrown at him. Another coup for the NHL Disciplinary Committee.  Fortunately for the Canucks they not only don't have to see Horton anymore but they don't have to play Rome either.

Keep your head up, son.

Hockey series can turn on a dime.  NBA series seem to have stronger themes.

Go... Canucks?

Very confident to hear a game seven guarantee from the MVP candidate who got punched seven times by a rookie in a blowout game, didn't fight back and got a misconduct anyway after begging for a call. Both of these teams are so awful that it's almost endearing but Vancouver is on another level. I'm still laughing about Luongo being bummed about "pumping [Thomas'] tires."

Feels bad man but I'm so behind the Bruins right now. I could watch Thomas chop down Burrows all day.

I've greatly enjoyed these playoffs but find myself a bit fatigued and, in particular, unable to really care who wins.  Vancouver seems like a neat city, has never won the Cup and Canada hasn't won for a long time.  Boston is an Original Six franchise and hasn't won for a very long time.  I don't love or hate anyone on either team.

I've been halfheartedly cheering for Vancouver, I guess.  Ryan Kesler seemed so unstoppable and skilled against Nashville and sometimes against San Jose, but it's hard to imagine a star player having a less consequential Finals appearance.

I'm completely with you on this.  I've been pulling for Vancouver, too, but Boston's been playing great since Game 3.  And I guess I'd rather see a Canadian team win, esp. with the Winnipeg franchise coming back in the 11-12 season (I realize these things have little in common, but I like seeing Canada get their due.).  Anyway, I'll watch tonight, but I won't be heartbroken to see it end.

What a fucking dumpster fire.

I'm going to quote a friend of mine's facebook status, because I couldn't agree more:
Quote
can't wait for sports articles trying to explain the built up tension of sports fans and the need for release much like in '94. What they'll leave out is the Guns N' Roses Riot, Olympic Riot, and others going back decades. Vancouver just has a high ratio of morons per capita. They always have.

There's that ongoing joke on the Best Show about bad Canadians. Most of them are the young dudes who live in the lower mainland of Greater Vancouver.

Just the worst. THE worst. And I'm mad at myself for the hours of live coverage I watched late into the night last night. Thankfully, all those cell phone videos will come in handy when these animals are rounded up and sent to a Russian gulag.

It's so incongruous for guys in $350 hockey jerseys to be a) rioting b) proudly stealing two blood-stained $29.95 shirts from a Banana Republic.

Heaven help me, I'm starting to agree with Spike.

Let's look on the brightside:

There was a large turn out in Vancouver the next morning of people volunteering to help pick up.

A lot of people, like Mr. Jason Li up above have been identified by the Internet and are now in for a world of shit.

Watching the news this morning in Toronto, it was great to see all of the people out there cleaning up the mess. The guy above and many others were posing for cameras in front of all that destruction. What were they thinking? Just looking at the photos from The National Post and CBC, unbelievable.

His jeans probably cost more than a team of city cleaning folks will make in a day.
