What would FOTs recommend for DJ headphones?
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:13:44 PM »
I'm placing my focus for buying my cans, based on wanting to DJ and monitor. I have heard recommendations for Pioneer HDJ1000 and Sennheiser HD25 1 II. At this point, I have friends telling me HDJ1000 work out because the bass is attenuated on them and DJ mixing is easier. Maybe easier, but then HD25 1 II are reportedly loud and equalized for monitoring. What I need them for is not hearing bands, but records. However, reportedly there's not so much difference in DJ mixing with HDJ1000 against HD25 I II, so it comes down to if monitoring or the cans' design is important to you. The stress of use of my last DJ cans caused them to break. Which ones are going to last longer with my typical wearing of them? Does the flatter treble and bass sound on the HD25 1 II make them better cans than the HDJ1000?

I found this video with a comparison review. It made me have a few more questions after watching it, giving me the reason for this post.

Sennheiser HD25 -1 II vs Pioneer HDJ1000 headphones

I used these when I was in radio and they were great. But, it seems they don't make them anymore? I always thought they were kind of the industry standard. Maybe there is a new model.

I got a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros for dj'ing about three years ago, and short of sitting on them or something, I can't see ever needling to buy another pair again.

I still have mine from 2001! I love them and am just now considering to replace them. They have been the best headphones I have ever owned. They are not the best for noise cancellation, probably not a good choice for live events.

B&H seem to have them in stock...

The only thing about them is that they really aren't good headphones for just listening to music. They have amazing clarity but they're a little flat on the bass side of things which is perfect for studio monitors. I use Grado 60i's for music which don't cancel out noise.
