Favorite Record Labels
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:50:21 AM »
What some of your favorite record labels? Do you have any up your sleeve that are just amazing? I love Drag City, Goner, In the Red, Matador and Sub Pop. I got a few 7"s from K and Trouble in Mind which were really good. And Sun and Stax are good old ones. I love when you can trust a label. Drag City does this $8 Item of the Week thing that I buy blindly when it's something I don't have. Well I listen to samples on Amazon. This week is a Bill Fay LP.

Schematic
Planet Mu
MEGO
Rephlex
Total (the label that put out indie compilations called Volume, and dance compilations called Trance Europe Express)
Deviant (the Total Record Company renamed, put out The Orb remix albums and other dance compilations)
(a label that is just named 'or')
n5MD
I had to include the last two, because they released some music just on MiniDisc, forcing you to buy a MiniDisc player.

In addition to those mentioned above:

Stones Throw
Numero Group (can't believe no one's mentioned these two yet)
Bear Family
Sympathy For The Record Industry
Hyped 2 Death
Burger (I can only play cassettes in my car, and they seem like the only label selling 'em nowadays)
Cherry Red
Stiff
Siltbreeze
SST
Rockathon
Daptone
Norton
Flying Nun
Homestead
Vampisoul
Sublime Frequencies
Mo' Wax
B-Music

I think I'm starting to just list every label I've ever heard of.

And Paul DePhiladelphia - I'm advising you to buy that Bill Fay LP. Even if you think you don't need it, YOU DO.
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

Sun

Finding Sun 45's is so much fun. I went back home to Louisiana for Easter and in a flea market I found Jerry Lee Lewis "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On" for a quarter.

@Matt - I ordered it this morning. I've trusted Drag City for years. I just tried out High Llamas. Really good. Also I like labels websites that  have sound clips. It's tough making a blind buy on a $6 7".

Yeh I like everything I have by Anti-. I also like a lot of what's on Lost Highway.
