Night Prowls
« on: April 30, 2007, 10:12:12 PM »
Sleepwalking is crazy.

At my friend's New Year's Eve Party, everyone was sleeping over and I was told in the morning that I was standing up staring at everyone in my sleep.  Then when I was asked what I was doing I danced and said "I don't know."  When I was told to go back to bed, I literally fell to the floor hard.

Who else has done this?  It skeeves me out.

I've talked in my sleep, and had one or two simple sleepwalking stints as a kid, BUT, the scary part was when I was say 9 or 10 I had a problem with an allergic reaction to a medication and a high fever and had a months worth of "night terror" where you are having horrible nightmares but are awake at the same time. So I would walk around hallucinating all sort of terrible stuff, freaked out that something was trying to kill me. I only remember bits but it was awful.

I've apparently quite loquacious in my sleep. I'm often arguing or upset in my dreams, I guess, based on what I've been told.

Also, one of the kids I babysat for when I was a teenager sleepwalked. It was creepy.

My buddy used to sleepwalk after drinking too much. I've witnessed this once or twice.  One time I tried to talk to him because I thought he was awake and he just kinda barked something unintelligible at me, like he was really pissed off.  Apparently one time he was acting like this and he just wipped it out and peed in the corner of his living room instead of going to the bathroom.  (this might be a tie-in with "blackout drunk")

i've never sleepwalked but i lucid dream. i didn't even know i was doing it until someone described it and i was like "i do that!" its sort of like what Richard_from_CHI described, but not nearly as horrific. i'll be asleep & dreaming, but i'll be consciously involved in the dream and i can make myself do stuff, like fly.

but the bad part is that when i wake up from one of these intense dreams, i'm super exhausted. its like i used all of my energy in my dream. its as if i didnt sleep a wink. so its the worst when i have to go to work feeling like i didn't get any sleep.

does anyone else have this?

I've never sleepwalked, but I have had intense "Wheee! I'm flying" dreams. Usually, I am sitting as if in an invisble car.  I don't feel exhausted afterwards.  It is great, great fun.

I used to have lots of those flying/floating dreams and I still do sometimes. But contrary to everyone else who has had such dreams, for me they all have been absolutely horrifying. I enjoy it not.

I used to sleepwalk regularly when I was a kid, but it died down when I hit puberty.  I also used to talk all the time in my sleep and apparently still do.  And I've endured my share of "night terrors," most recently a couple of months ago.  No fun.

John, what you describe sounds very much like a drunk thing.  It was my misfortune to be affiliated for quite some time with a fellow who drank/drugged heavily and frequently would conduct arguments with strangers (while looking at me) in his sleep.  And, god, the pissing mishaps . . .  Again, no fun.
