Trip to California
« on: July 21, 2011, 02:40:49 PM »
My wife and I are planning a trip to CA in early August. Basically we'll be driving from SF to LA on the Pacific Coast Hwy, and stopping along the way for 10 days total. We are planning on spending 2 and a half days to 3 days in both SF and LA.

If any of you California FOTs have some recommendations, let me know. We're shakiest about lodging in SF and LA. We don't want to break the bank too much, but we realize that hotels/inns are going to be more expensive here.

Basically, if you have any advice for us, let me know.

Most of the vacation is booked at this point, but I thought I would have teed someone up for an "Amazing Journey" joke at least.

San Luis Obispo is amazingly beautiful.  The only place I've eaten there, though, is a Carl's Jr.  It was nice for a Carl's Jr, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Enjoy your trip!
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Thanks for tip about San Luis. Might actually be able to swing through there.

LA or SF FOTs... we're leaving in a few days. We're going off of travel guides and hunches, so any tips about your cities will be appreciated by a Calidummy FOT couple!

If you can, go north of San Francisco to the Redwoods. We went from Seattle to SF a few years back -- the Redwoods were absolutely spectacular.

My favorite neighborhood in SF was the beach area on the Pacific. That was really nice. The Mission was pretty cool, too. I'm not much of a Dave Eggers fan but his stores/workshops are well worth a trip.  SF's Chinatown was really great. I also loved the heck out of this one garlic-themed restaurant they had in their Little Italy-type area.

You should be able to catch the massive street art exhibit at Moca downtown. I still need to get out to that. It's there til Aug. 8th!
