Albert Brooks, especially the first five movies he directed (Real Life through Mother).

Some people I've been really enjoying on Twitter lately are Chelsea Peretti, Joe Mande, Morgan Murphy, and Andy Richter.

An addendum: Morgan Murphy's tweets are very funny, but she'll occasionally RT the less funny and unfunny (MIB and Carollo.)

Anyone into Doug Stanhope up in here? I've been really digging his past few albums lately, and his appearance on Louie the other week was pretty classic.

For my part, I'm aware of them and plan on seeking out their show to watch because it gets high praise. However, Joe Cornish bombed in a big way on Comedy Bang Bang recently.

I love him in spite of/because of the fact that I disagree with him half the time.

H-man, don't let it get around that you agree with Doug Stanhope half the time. You'll be fighting off militia recruiters.

Ha. A certain guy who has been in one more than 999 fights is pretty much exactly that.  I'm assuming the number is still at 1000 since he hasn't been in one since then that I know of.

I'm not very familiar with Doug Stanhope's material and haven't listened to the WTF with him yet. My understanding is that he is shooting for the persona of an unhinged Bill Hicks (redundant?). I remember seeing him on Charlie Brooker's Newswipe and that's the impression I got. Am I close?

I think that's pretty close, though I'm not a huge Hicks fan (somewhat overrated). Stanhope is pretty raw and unhinged and politically incorrect, with much less of Hicks' elitist social commentary style material.

I don't think Stanhope is "shooting for" anything of the sort. It's just what he is.

I will say, though, that if you don't like Bill Hicks, you will probably hate Stanhope.

I am pretty sure Dick Cheney is pretty much "what he is" too, but I don't want to hear him tell, uhh, dick jokes.
