I'm a little late to this discussion, but since I just watched the entire run of The Larry Sanders Show for the first time now I can contribute. It's obvious who the new Hank is, right? It's AP Mike!

Well, let's look at this a little more closely.  Hank is a clueless, narcissistic parasite who leeches off the talents of his superiors, would shiv his employer in a heartbeat if there were some advancement in it for him, and keeps his job because he's just too pathetic to fire.

On the other hand, unlike Mike, he's a hit with the little old ladies.

While Mike is a much better dude than Hank, I would love to see Mike do a commercial for the Garden Weasel. MIKE  - WILL YOU RISE TO MY CHALLENGE?

Mike has dipped his toe in these waters before, seeking out acting work in a Flomax commercial.  Personally, I think that's aiming a bit low.  After Tom takes over Garrison Keillor's slot, I see no reason why Mike shouldn't be able to parlay his stature as Tom's right-hand man into a gig as Flomax spokesman.  Think of the perks: cushy junkets to AARP conventions, all the free Flomax you want....

I think Mike is like a combination of Beverly and Phil from The Larry Sanders Show. Always screening calls for Tom but still contributing dark, inappropriate comments from time to time.
