Keith Whitener's Cross Country Road Trip (For Realsies this time)
« on: September 14, 2011, 12:12:36 PM »
My girlfriend and I are leaving on the weekend of the 23rd for a 3 week vacation. Any suggestions for what we can see around the country. Here's the route thus far: http://g.co/maps/jn7wq

Trying to figure out what to see in between long stretches of driving, like between NJ and Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh and Chicago, Chicago and Mt. Rushmore.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin is right there too, to further justify the detour off of I-90.

Make sure you stop at The Badlands on the way to Mount Rushmore.  And the Crazy Horse monument.  Also Wall Drug if you like tourist traps.

Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH if you like amusement parks/roller coasters.  Probably only open on the weekend this time of year.

Have fun!

Oh, man.  You have to stop at House on the Rock.  It's an imperative.  It's like a museum designed by a madman who was briefly told what a museum is.

Both Taliesin and House on the Rock are in the near vicinity of Madison, which is really great this time of year.  I'm sure plenty of folks around here could clue you into the hotspots.
