I was about to post a recommendation for fans of Stroszek; a Russian movie called "Come and See" about the Belorussian resistance during WW2. Then I remembered this thread.......

I just went and friended a bunch of people, if anyone is wondering.  People with good taste are better recommendation engines than Netflix's software.

Stroszek is available through watch now.  Watch now works pretty well through Parallels, if you're on a Mac.

Huh.  I just queued that a couple of weeks ago.  Whereas Come and See looks bleak and heavy though, I also think Stroszek starts out depressing but ends up being kind of funny.

And by the way, Herzog's "Heart of Glass" is even funnier, mainly because he hypnotized the entire cast during filming and they literally act in a daze throught the movie (it also looks fantastic and the has the usual, great Popol Vuh soundtrack).

Come and See is amazing- horrifying and surreal.  It was originally going to be titled Kill Hitler.

Are the "Bourne" movies any good?  The popularity of this series completely slipped past me until this most recent one came out.

It's all about the action sequences, which if someone tried to sell me on a movie saying that, I'd be like, "um, yeah, pass".

There's something going on in the cinematography and editing of these scenes that make you feel like YOU'RE getting beat up. See on the big screen if possible.

Hmmm... I'll probably rent the first one, although I wish I could just skip to the new one.  If the action is more intense than the hypnotized bar fight in Heart of Glass I'll be mightily impressed indeed.

Yeah, they're a little heavy on the fists and light on the "script" but still pretty exciting for popcorn flicks. Think Die Hard without the bad jokes. Which, some would argue, are the best parts of Die Hard.

The most recent Bourne was pretty damn good; saw it in a drive-in double bill with Ratalouie.

I saw the last one in the theater, Chris L. It was OK, but it didn't exactly make me want to move the previous two to the top of my list either. Catch my drift?

I Netflix'd the first Bourne movie and wasn't that crazy about it. Not exactly bad, but nothing that hasn't been done better elsewhere. I wasn't cursing the movie for taking 2 hours of my life away, but I had no interest in seeing the others either.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

since i'm (buster) randomly friending some of you, it seems only fair to allow those to do the same to me. eye for an eye etc.

I decided to sign up for Blockbuster Online because I like getting the free in-store rentals as well. Does anybody else rent their movies through them?

No, for they are evil and owned by a total freak of nature.

They edit out the parts of films that they don't think they want you to see.
