Not to be a sad sack, but I regret to inform you that Hank was put down yesterday.  Cannot really complain as he lived a good 15 years, but even so ...

Haven't heard the Best Show in a pig's age.  Time to get up to speed ...

Oh, this is sad.  I loved  Hank.  He reminded me of my dog Katie, who died some eight years ago.  A plain old yellow mutt.  Best dogs in the world.  (Sorry for repeating myself [see reply #3, above]; at least I'm consistent).

I'm sorry, Rainer.

Thanks, Sarah.

One of the signs was that he was doing that Elephant Graveyard thing.  I had my kids for the weekend, and took them to my parent's house.  At first, I was hopeful ... Hank was wagging his tail and running all over the yard and had a bowel movement.  But then later, he walked into my dad's workshop (dark as india ink) and just sat there by the fridge.

But the suffering is over.  He never liked those pills that I had to wedge into cheddar cheese chunks.  Is there anything more violent than pinching a dog's cheeks to get his mouth to auto-magically pop open?

Sorry for your loss, Rainer.  I'm glad Hank had a nice long life with you and yours.

Ditto, Rainer.  Sounds like he had a great life.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

And what's with the absence, Rainer?  There are a couple of preemo DC-FOT-related events coming up this summer.
You're still in Arlington, yes?  Come have a sody! (with me and maybe three other dudes.)

Ranier! I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering where you had been. (I don't know why...)

I'm so sorry to hear about Hank. He looks like he was a good boy and 15 years is a good long lifetime. Still, I know it's still hard.

Hang in there.

Thanks, all.  I picked up his ashes today at the vet.  The small, wooden container -- screwed shut but held in place with a rubber band -- was strangely heavy. Also disconcerting was a little sticker on the bottom reading "HANK DIETZ."

Dorvid, yes, let's get together.  Please don't tell me that PFT has come and gone.

I'm living in Reston now (don't judge).  Got a top-secret job and moving forward with the divorce ... things are much better with my wife now, no more hostilities, just a Legal Matter, baby.  I'm so behind on listening to the Best Show because I got to the point where I didn't want to "waste it" when I was feeling so down.  An odd thing, because when I was at my lowest, The Best Show was somewhat of a lifeline for me.  Time to catch up.

He frickin' postponed! Again!  (Something better must have come up for that weekend, so God bless him - it's awesome that he comes here at all.  I'm only mad because I love.)
The Drafthouse told me he intends to reschedule.

Funny you should mention that.  (long story)

Point is, I'm very glad that you're back on your feet and are back on the board. I look forward to hanging out with you and watching what I say - one can't be too careful around any resident of Reston, let alone the ones who won't say what they do for a living.

You should meet Johnny Yesno before he heads back to Colorado.  Later this month, we're seeing a Jason Grote play alongside the man himself!  (Grote, not Tom)

PM if you're interested.

Dog owners should read this. Warning about a line of toys that can really hurt your dog. Pretty popular brand too. (Four Paws)

Rainer, hope you're doing okay. I'm approaching a similar situation with a 17 year old cat, so my heart goes out to you.

I also found the Best Show at a pretty low point in my life, after a divorce and whatnot and it got me through things splendidly.  It totally was a lifeline for me.  I don't think I watched tv or listened to anything else for almost a half year while I poured through the archives.

Jennifer,

Thanks for the kind words.  Good luck with your cat ... not sure what the average life expectancy is for our feline friends, but 17 is not too shabby.

Totep,

It's sick how therapeutic the Best Show is, eh?   Of course, in saying that, I putting myself out there to be "fixed."
