Everyone knows a lot more about Spike these days, but early on I used to love hearing the details of Tom's guesses about Spike's lifestyle -

-sitting on an orange crate, calling the show with a rotary phone
-owning one single plate, fork and knife
-adjusting the rabbit ears on his TV
-stealing his neighbor's cable
-being wheeled around Hannibal Lecter-style
-wearing an ankle bracelet

Spike having to run out of cinemas showing kids movies because "of that court order...right" (these aspersions were cast circa his 2006-07 calls). One of my favorite moments was when the VCR quit holding pause and the soap opera he had on pause blared in the background during a call. That really happened.

Spike seems like a good egg deep down.

He's a good sport if nothing else. I like him better when he deviates from his shtick a little or when Tom forces him into new territory, but I like his calls for the most part.

You've put your finger on it, that's when Spike calls become great radio.

Thank goodness it was a soap opera, right?  The alternatives are slasher movies, doo wop videos (if they exist) and... other, if we take his initial calls as the basis.

If you haven't heard this week's episode and Carl Newman's tribute (?) (!) to Spike, you are in for a treat.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Watching late-night TV by pressing his face against the glass front of a closed electronics store.
Ever do nothing and gain nothing from it?
Ever feel stupid and then know that you really are?
Ever think you're smart and then find out you aren't?
Ever play the fool and then find out that you're worse?

And though this isn't an "image of Spike," Tom's referring to John Wesley Shipp as "that porn actor you're obsessed with" cracks me up.

I wonder if Spike has had to re-workshop "Snoop Kitty Kat" since he's now called Snoop Lion. Although I guess a lion is still a cat.

Spike finding a soggy bookshelf down by the waterfront and dragging it back to his basement apartment.
Listening to the Best Show on a transistor radio.

I forgot about the days when Tom would quietly play the Maude theme song in the background whenever Spike was talking.
