universally disliked actors who keep getting work
« on: March 16, 2013, 12:40:24 PM »
This guy.

He seems like he's popped up in every comedy of the last few years. Yet I have never met anyone who likes him. Actually everyone I know has at some point said they disliked him. I was curious so I went to his IMDB forum and it seems to confirm it.

I remember 7-8 years ago when David Koechner popped up in every comedy, most people I know commented how much they disliked him.

Would Adam Sandler qualify? Almost every film he's acted in has been universally panned, yet he still continues to get work.

Kevin Bacon and Nic Cage, both of those guys ave been stinking movies out for 20+ years now. Must have good agents?

More recently: Kevin James?

I feel like there are a lot of people who openly like all those guys though. I haven't met anyone who would actively see a movie because Clark Duke is in it. At least Kevin Bacon seems like a cool guy. Clark Duke is just unlucky to have such a punchable face, I think.

They pretty universally make a significant profit, I think.

I realize that this kind of stuff isn't really worth arguing about, but I always thought Kevin Bacon was reliably good, if not great, even when he's in junk. And as for Nic Cage, I was shocked recently when I chatted with a 20 year old who despised him - I still have loads of goodwill for Cage on the basis of a whole bunch of movies from the 80s and 90s. (And he's been pretty great recently-ish in both Kick-Ass and Adaptation.) Again, even when he's in horrible movies (which admittedly is usually) Cage makes them more entertaining than they would be in his absence.

Gerard Butler is a shoo-in for this category, surely. And a more controversial choice: John Cusack. He used to be one of the most likeable actors around, but these days anytime I see him I frown involuntarily.

You have a point there.

This surprises me. Granted, it's not usually the first topic I bring up in conversation, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't like Dave Koechner. He has a lot of goodwill from me for his roles in Anchorman and Extract.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Yep.

And he also made some funny guest appearances on The Office.

I think you meant Utter Dickwad, but typo'd it and wrote cool guy?

What's your beef with Kevin Bacon?

The guy has turned in some real hammy performances lately. What's the last film he was in that wasn't a turkey?

If you'd watched last week's The Office, and judging by the ratings, you didn't, you would have gotten to see yr heroes Clark Duke and David "Dave" Koechner act opposite each other in the least funny episode of The Office ever.

There have been worse ones, but none that had so little humor in them. Please let this end so I can stop watching.

It's a cliche to say at this point, but Shia Labeouf.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!
