Scarface t-shirt - 2008 premium
« on: August 22, 2013, 06:25:24 PM »
I got my WFMU stuff today! I got to choose a warehouse prize, so naturally, I went for the Best Show t-shirt as soon as I saw it listed. I had to look it up on here before I saw the joke ("Get ready to meet my little friend").

I vaguely recollect it from a S&W call, but I really can't remember which one. It's from before I started listening, so I'd assume it's from a Gem. If someone could pinpoint it for me, that would be really helpful, and it would greatly enhance my enjoyment of the shirt. It must originally be from late 2007/early 2008.

I'm pretty sure "get ready to meet my little friend" comes from the second movie quotes episode, September 25, 2007.

Yeah it wasn't Wurster, just a caller with a mangled quote.

Thanks a lot, I'll listen to this soon. Why'd it take so long to get an answer though? Those were 9 long minutes.

Hmm, ok, I must be thinking of something else with the Wurster call. Talk about mangled memories.

Thanks again.

Nah you're remembering right, after that show it was one of those things that swept through Newbridge for a few weeks.

That was one of the clips that piqued my now wife's interest in the show. Tom, incredulous, was able to make fun of Seth while never being mean about his misquote, and to end the conversation sweetly by wishing the Georgian caller well on his schoolwork and goofing about Cabbagetown and McDonald's.

A great episode featuring rare appearances by Chris L in MD, David/Dorvid, Susannah, and Swiss Miss!
"Alright, well, for the sake of this conversation, let's say the book does not exist."

From Sept. 25th, 2007.  At around 1:04:45 Seth, brother of regular caller of the time Bonnie, contributes to the Best Show Movie Quote list. This is one of the shows that hooked me in.

Oh der. You already found the one.

Listened to this today, it's a good one. Many Herzog references, an epic GOMP of a mother who was overly proud of her kid's love of Forrest Gump (or "the Forrest GOMP" as it's presumably known), a PFT call, and a woman who thinks she shouldn't be judged for her racist thoughts, because she doesn't say them out loud.

In the Forrest GOMP, Tom plays a clip of and sings along to "What's the Matter with Kids Today" from Bye Bye Birdie (looked it up). I guess this was the Bad Company of its day.

The Scarface misquote is very Newbridgian. Thanks guys, I will now wear my shirt with pride, at the risk of being taken for the kind of person who would wear a Scarface t-shirt.

Puff up and be proud!  Just be prepared to deal with the know-it-alls who will undoubtedly tell you how wrong the quote on your t-shirt is.
That's just the tip of the ice cube.
