I have actually given my list more thought, because the local disc store asked to submit for their end of year newsletter. So I spent the whole weekend chasing down stuff I had not heard much of. They will call me Professor Dave, Super Customer. I will try to get them to add D.F.K. to the end like it's some sort of  obscure academic credential. Here's what I got.

1) Mikal Cronin - MCII
2) Sigur Ros - Kveiker
3) Jon Hopkins - Immunity
4) Deerhunter - Monomania
5) James Blake - Overgrown
6) Arcade Fire - Reflektor
7) Savages - Silence Yourself
8) Earthless - From the Ages
9) Haim - Days are Gone
10) Julianna Barwick - Nepenthe
11) David Bowie - The Next Day
12) Matthew E White - Big Inner
13) Julia Holter - Loud City Song
14) John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts
15) The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
16) Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold
17) Kurt Vile - Waking on a Pretty Daze
18) Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady
19) Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark
20) The National - Trouble Will Find Me
21) Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest
22) Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork
23) Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
24) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
25) Neko Case - The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You

So now there are different lists for both of my personalities.

You guys love your new music.

This year I rediscovered Harvey Danger and downloaded basically everything they ever did, and listened to a whole bunch of Death Cab, and listened to the Gene Simmons solo album a couple of times here at the end. That's it, other that my constantly shuffling iPod.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

22) Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork

Nice. I forgot this one but it should've been on my list.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Hmmm ... I like at least half the songs, but I don't see this one growing on me the way the other albums have. Every Josh project always has at least a couple of great songs ... but I feel like his batting average is gradually diminishing. Don't get me wrong, that's better than most people ...

I'm also bothered by this thing he's been doing on the last couple QOTSA albums ... where he trumpets "guest appearances" by people that turn out to be barely audible (nick oliveri supposedly returns to do some backing vocals on this album, Mark Lannegan and Julian Casablancas are supposedly in the mix on "Era Vulgaris" ... Elton John may or may not be adding a few piano plinks to the song "Fairweather Friends")
"He didn't sound like a human when I was talking to him ... he sounded like a shape ... what's that shape of that building ... you know, where the Army lives?" -- Bryce, 11/24/2009

Came across a nice mention of the Wrong Words and some random guy's website I occasionally check out for new music.

Trouble In Mind (2013)

Everything Is Free is the 2nd full length from San Francisco's The Wrong Words. In the past I've heard them called the West Coast Gentlemen Jesse, and while I don't think that comparison is 100% accurate, it is a pretty decent jumping off point if you're looking for a reference.

As with their debut, the new record is full of upbeat, clean guitar with pop hooks and a little bit of vocal fuzz. Their are times where the vocals can borderline on being a bit weird when the singer is aiming for some of the really high notes, but it's not often and the band keeps the songs straightforward and catchy.

Everything Is Free is just as strong as the Wrong Words' debut, so it should please prior fans of the band. It may even prove to be a better starting point for those that are new to the party. This album may be destined to be slightly overshadowed by the never ending stream of amazing records that have come out in 2013, but it's absolutely worth making some time for.

Hey thanks for posting! It's funny making records - you work so hard on them and then wonder if anybody's ever gonna hear it. At least Tom gave it a spin and that's all I really care about....it's the highest honor in music, 2013!

Wrong Words are playing SF this Saturday the 14th at the Cafe Du Nord, I'll put you on the list if you want! Send me your full name and what's done is done!

My friend Simon helps me out with my radio show and I have rechristened him Associate Producer Simon. He dropped his Top 10 of 2013 on air last week:

It's a mix of garage rock, and synth-psych stuff.

I'll be dropping my list on New Years Day live on air. I'll post a link at the time if that's cool with y'all?

Cool with me.

Coincidentally, the record the guy is holding in the picture on your site is one of few 2013 releases I purchased this year.
