Recommended Old Shows?
« on: December 09, 2013, 01:35:06 PM »
Hey! I've only been listening regularly for the last few years, and I've been wanting to dive back into the archives, which is somewhat daunting. So I was wondering if any of y'all have recommended older episodes that stand out as a way to ease myself in? By which I mean the show as a whole and not just a wonderful dispatch from Newbridge.

Or is this purely a chump's errand and I should just dive right in?

Thanks, all!

This is the one that hooked me: June 3, 2008:

Start at the beginning and just keep going. It's remarkably rewarding. There's no rush.

Here's a thread I started asking for favorite episodes and I got lots of great, considered responses. Hope this helps...

it's not that old and you may have heard it, but one of my favorites was a caller and Tom discussing New Jersey's Xanadu shopping center. I'm a West coast person so I haven't seen this monstrosity first hand, but I did go to the West Edmonton mall once, which has an indoor wave pool, marine shows, pirate ship, Chinatown and roller coaster, so I do know a thing or two about insanely ridiculous things....

I recommend- January 23, 2007: Talk Of Feuds, I Want My Money Back, Petey Versus August And More!

It has Under Pressure: Bowie vs Mercury.  One of my favorite moments and part of what hooked me to the Best Show.
Vandalism! Sick vandalism! When I get my hands on the little punks I'm gonna hang them by their Buster Browns!

It is worth listening to all of them, in order.  You listen to the characters, callers, and jokes develop.
