Back Pain
« on: August 04, 2014, 11:30:09 AM »
hey everyone, a close friend of mine is going through some crippling back pain right now.  i remember a few years ago tom spent some time talking about what was helping him cope with his.  i know every case is different, but i remember him mentioning a book that he said was helping him.  does anyone remember the name of that book???  has anyone used it with any success here?  i have found that personally small amounts of rest, walking, yoga and acupuncture have helped me a lot.
you're gonna love hell, its a lot like Ohio.

Sarno is the guy. It worked for me.

The basic idea is that you're too stressed out and your body causes a ton of inflammation in your back, neck, wrists,  whatever. The book kinda stinks, and I didn't believe it, but after a week my pain went away. All it took for me was a couple of days saying to myself, "You're stressed out because your dad's dying and your girlfriend moved away and your boss is an asshole." You don't have to fix everything in your life, just admitting shit is fucked up makes it better.

Ice is very helpful. If it's the low back: knees to chest exercises, breathing exercises and putting your legs up on a chair with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle is pretty effective (10 minutes minimum).

I've also had some success using this thing: http://www.aviva.ca/shop/products.asp?itemid=7543&
