Wait, so why can't I download old episodes?
« on: August 21, 2014, 11:08:43 PM »
Sorry if this has been touched on previously.

Long story short: Haven't listened to the show in a while, started up again and of course got hooked. Tryna listen to older episodes (i.e. pre-2013). I know there's the WFMU site where you can stream them, but that doesn't help me because the times I'm most likely to listen are at work or at the gym, both of which cases I need access from my iPhone, which, as far as I know can't stream from that website because of Flash stuff. When I use the Podcast app through iTunes I can only get episodes as far back as 2013 with some sporadic clips from earlier. I remember being able to download episodes going much farther back about a year or two ago. What's happened since that they're being stingy with letting me download episodes from 2009? Is there something I can do to listen to these older episodes on my mobile device?

Go to the post burning thread--again THAT thread--and get up to 50.  I recommend the 1, 2, 3 approach, but if you want something more cumbersome, go for it.

When you get that, a secret part of the boards appear.  Then try the search function again.

Keep in mind that WFMU is an independent listener-supported station that archives every program that airs. Streaming their archived shows (especially one that ended 9 months ago and ran for 13 years) is less expensive that having downloadable files. I'm not sure stingy would be the right word.

I agree. The archives are quite an achievement considering how many years it goes back. I wouldn't call them stingy either. I do agree they are not the most friendly when listening on phone but you make due at the gym with more recent ones. I pledged to WFMU for this years marathon and got a data disc of 25 shows. I put those on my phone and listen to them if I'm out and about and just stream archives at home.Since I'm new here I feel bad about using the post burning. I want to try to earn the 50.

Thanks for the help all. And yeah, stingy might be too strong a word. Perhaps I was just being fueled by Best Show-less belligerence at the time. I also think I was just thrown by the fact that it was something they used to have at least in some capacity and now don't. Anyway, I have to go get through these episodes now.

It's understandable. We're all feeling it.  :)
