Everything Will Be Alright In The End
« on: October 07, 2014, 08:32:14 AM »
New Weezer album out today. I've been listening to it for a week now, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but ... It's great. Thought I'd start a thread for anyone wise enough to give up years ago. This is worth checking out.

If you need further prodding, the album features two FOTs: Jake Fogelnest (minor role on first track "Ain't Got Nobody") and Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus (co-wrote "Foolish Father," also plays guitar on the track).

Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely one of the people who gave up years ago, despite loving them intensely before that. Gonna check it out now!

I am still very skeptical of this. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but the songs I've heard have all had lyrics that made me cringe. Back To The Shack, especially, is one of the worst Weezer songs I've ever heard.

Matthew Perpetua loved it!

I listened to it. I found it to be one of those "I get what he's doing here, and I even appreciate it, I just don't actually like the music or the lyrics" songs.

"The Strat with the lightning strap?" Just like movies and tv shows about making movies and tv shows are the best, so are songs about recording songs!

"Back to the Shack" is definitely the worst song on the album. It makes a bit more sense within context of the record, but yeah, odd choice for a single.

I listened to Hash Pipe the other day, and I thought "that was the best thing they've recorded since the first two albums." Then I realized I liked a total of one other song on the entirety of the Green Album and Maladroit ("Slave," as it turns out).

I view Rivers Cuomo like I view Billy Corgan - both very talented guys who have climbed entirely inside themselves. Both capable of a good song about every five years now.

I haven't given this new album a fair shake. Really haven't liked anything by them a whole lot since my brother convinced me to give Pinkerton another shot about a year after it came out.

I will say that they did put on a great show a couple of years ago when they twin-headlined a Summer tour with The Flaming Lips. Sure, it was basically a greatest hits type of show, but I enjoyed it.

My teenage son loves them so I'll be hearing more than my share of the new record.
That's just the tip of the ice cube.
