Huffington Post: (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/18/carty-finkbeiner-ohio-may_n_217412.html)
TOLEDO, Ohio — Online video shows an Ohio mayor biking through a city park stepped into a fight to break it up, yelling at the teens and calling one a "fatso."
A video posted on YouTube shows 70-year-old Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-nur) wading into the midst of about 20 young people.
He is heard yelling, "Come here, fatso" and "Tubby, get your butt out of here."
And seriously, a thousand thank yous to the people of Toledo for electing a mayor with a name that I believe is an homage to Salute Your Shorts.

I don't need any fighting or any slinging of crack here!

"What kind of mayor calls a kid a fatass?"
The awesomest kind. This man deserves our congratulations for ridding municipal parks of young fatsos, fatasses and tubbies. He's like Batman, but with fat kids instead of super-villains.
-
This guy deserves a fun pack.
-
That kid looked like a dick.
-
I side with the mayor. It looks like this "don't snitch" bullshit has turned from media panic into something that's actually going on. How fucking depressing.
-
New Port Richey, Ohio?
-
I'm siding with the Mayor too. These kids are acting like shit heads, fighting in a public park. The Mayor happened to be in the area and took matters into his own hands. Good for him.
-
A mayor who's not afraid to mix it up with some young punks is my type of guy.
-
One could say he's a little reckless: one old mayor against a crowd of kids. Buncha wimps. They could've taken that guy easy.
-
This guy... this guy is the kind of mayor a town can be proud of. (And that kid is a fatass. Spiritually and physically.)
-
That kid is a mental fat ass.

That isn't anything new at all.

I commend that guy. When I was a kid, my friends and I got into tons of trouble, but as soon as any adult showed up and threatened to call the cops, we'd wise up eventually. Sure, we'd give back a healthy dose of sass and verbal abuse, but what kid wouldn't? And we'd definitely never snitch and always give fake names if asked.
Kids will be kids, but adults shouldn't be afraid to confront them. It takes a village, and so forth. He didn't lay hands on them, which is good. He used some insults to get their attention. To that I say "go with what works." Those kids look like trouble-makers of the highest order, and had probably proven (in the parts of the video that we didn't get to see) that they did not deserve respect in that situation.
Nate and his friends would never behave like that... if they knew an elected official was present.
-
Would his using "dumbass" have caused less of a stir, do you suppose?
-
Slight correction: "It takes a mayor."
-
I think that releasing this video will have the opposite effect that they (i.e. the kids) were hoping. This will clearly not harm the mayor's reputation.
-

Probably not. The kid who posted the video was just looking for any form of abuse to cry about. I grew up overweight. If a kid called me "fatass," I'd offer them a fair fight. If an adult called me "fatass," I'd insult them right back and try to get them to hit me so I could sue (told you I was a trouble-maker).
If an adult called me "dumbass," he was probably my father and I had probably just done something dumb.
-
But this seems to support my theory that, if "dumbass" had been used instead of "fatass," the filmmaker's outrage would have been less.

From the city that brought us Joe the Plumber!

From the city that brought us Joe the Plumber!
Thanks to the great city of Toledo for bringing us this national treasure.

Bask in his glory, for he is truly one of the great political minds of our time. A man that we can all be proud to call a fellow American.
-
frickin' hell... Joe The Plumber looks like Lex Luthor the Motivational Speaker.
He would even have his own theme song as he took the stage: "Joooooe The Plummmber... went to the blah-blah-blah", as sung to the tune of Bowie's Joe The Lion.
Man... I used to love that song. Now I just don't know...

We are all Joe The Plumber.

"fatso" who is their mayor Ralph Kramden?
-
One of these days, fatso. One of these days...
-
But this seems to support my theory that, if "dumbass" had been used instead of "fatass," the filmmaker's outrage would have been less.
Perhaps you are right then. We'll have to recreate the scenario... Nate!!!!! Get your fattest friend on the phone and have him meet us at the park! Don't tell him the mayor's gonna be there.
-
I bet Nate and a bunch of his buddies, fat or not, wouldn't draw the same kind of ire.
-
I thought it was funny how the guy who is, I guess, hosting(?) the video is like "What kind of MAYOR calls a kid fatso??" Maybe it's cause of the area I grew up in, but it seems like calling a kid fatso is one of the least offensive things a mayor can do, as it doesn't even involve extortion or the mafia.
-
This guy has got nothing on Scott McPherson.

Got that "right" Pally.
-
I bet Nate and a bunch of his buddies, fat or not, wouldn't draw the same kind of ire.
I will make sure they never get word of that bet because they will draw ire first and ask questions later.
-
What was that kid thinking? No one likes a fatso! I'm kind of ashamed of the mayor for not also calling him "Blimpy" and "Big Boy."
