Hi, I listen to TBS every week and I always love the guests. ;D But I'm really excited about Noel and Julien coming on the show. I've never rung in before but I'm very tempted to this week however I wouldn't know what to say. :-\
Is anyone here planning to call in? What will you say?
Also just a silly question I suppose but are The Mighty Boosh as popular over in the USA as they are here in England? :D

No, the Boosh are just starting their publicity blitz here in N. America. They're not well-known at all.

I'm glad its not just me, also I would most likely make a tit of myself.
Ooooh that so exciting that they are just starting out over there. TMB are very very good live, everyone gets dressed as charaters from the show. When I saw them like I was sitting between 2 Old Greggs hahaha ;D

I need a place to start with Mighty Boosh. I've watched random episodes on-demand and I feel like I'm missing something.

It's not for everyone.
But how 'bout season 1, episode 1?

Milky Joe episode is hilarious.
Generalization ahead:
I've noticed that Boosh are a lot more popular with women than lots of other cult comedy. Some ladies I know who recoil in non-laughter at say Tim and Eric are obsessed with Boosh.

Boosh are cute, non-threatening, silly, fashionable, even handsome. Tim and Eric on the other hand...

I suppose I was wondering more if that was the most accessible place to start or not.

Yeah - I'm a women and I really like Tim & Eric as well as Boosh.

I've only seen one episode of THE MIGHTY BOOSH, and that was a while ago. I remember it began with one of the guys in a "jazz trance" and ended with both of them playing in an synth-pop band. It didn't bowl me over, but I thought it was pretty solid and amusing throughout.
Maybe their appearance on the Best Show will make me want to check out more of their stuff, like the Andrew Daly and Robert Popper appearances did.

Well, I did say generalization. True comedy nerds of any gender, even Hijra, like everything.
By far, Julian Barratt's best role was in Nathan Barley.

Yes, you did! I still had to weigh in.
Now, if we're talking about which pair I'd like to uh, help me bring in the groceries ... I'd have to say the Boosh.

The Milky Joe episode, above, is really funny. The beginning isn't necessarily the funniest, and there's definitely not much continuity to worry about. But I like figuring the show out along with the creators.

I personally would say start with the legend of old gregg or the new sound.
they are probably (in my humble opinion) the best.
I almost forgot nanageddon is very very funny.
hope this helps ;D

I'd say in general terms your probably right, i think its because noel is a bit of a sex symbol over here as is julien and even naboo hahaha. Also the comedy isnt crude or sexually derogatory. its just silly. :D
At their shows there are always lots of screaming teens, like rock stars of the comedy world.

Definitely not old greg. At least for someone's first episode.

only one half related, but I'm quite fond of this scene/role:

Embrace the infinite.

See, I prefer this.
Boosh is for the lasses (nothing wrong with that)
Darkplace is for full grown men of taste an sophistication
-
Well, sure, Darkplace is better. But Darkplace is better than almost anything.
-

You know, I feel a mad coming on. Will one of you full grown men of taste and sophistication tell me that a) my hair looks nice, or b) it looks like I've lost weight, whichever seems more plausible?

This Boosh appreciation thread, which was rolling along nicely, just took a turn at stupid.

You're assuming TE is a full grown man... mentally at least.

Oh, piffle, TE. Don't be a boob.

I never got into Darkplace, but maybe I should give it another try. I'm always looking for ways to augment my masculinity.

everyone lost me at Trembling Eagle and something about losing weight.

I don't have a video editor on this poopin' work computer - go to 3:40 ish or so.

I love the Mighty Boosh as well but it's true, Darkplace is better than everything. Speaking of British television shows, does anyone like the IT crowd?
-
The IT Crowd is a more conventional sit com, but there is funniness to it. Matt Berry is really good in the second series. And I have a soft spot for Richard Ayoade.
I was not madly wowed by Darkplace. Oh, it's funny, but the mechanism that produces the laughs is so predictable. The thing I like about Boosh is its sheer oddness. There's also lots of very quick, nonsensical wordplay.

The thrill of hearing the Boosh on the show last night prompted me to take several "which Boosh character are you most like?" quizzes. Results:
1. Vince Noir (http://www.quizilla.com/quizzes/682178/which-mighty-boosh-character-are-you) (very surprisingly)
2. Bollo (http://www.quizilla.com/quizzes/4472815/what-mighty-boosh-character-are-you-most-like-including-the-hitcher-and-the-moon)
3. Bob Fossil (http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/testgen/2735/)
4. Vince Noir (http://quizfarm.com/quizzes/new/ekul1/which-mighty-boosh-character-are-you/) again (!)
5. Howard (http://www.okcupid.com/quizzy/take?id=4205315260274663336)
6. Naboo (http://apps.facebook.com/qwhich-mighty-dgijf/?_fb_fromhash=06872e5242924e923a1597e8e2544d3c&_fb_q=1&auth_token=8fbb661068f755282f960b7231c8d0f3&installed=1) (note: Facebook has a quiz entitled "Growing Up In Old Bridge, NJ")
7. Tony Harrison (http://www.tvloop.com/the-mighty-boosh/show/quizzes/Which-Boosh-Character-Are-You-17735&wclc=thv-l1)
8. Bob Fossil (http://www.boredquiz.com/personality_quiz/which-mighty-boosh-character-are-you-most-like/1)
9. Bollo (http://www.youthink.com/quiz.cfm?action=go_detail&sub_action=take&obj_id=6894)
I'm beginning to think these tests aren't entirely reliable.
And, yes, I am lightly insane. Why?

You're welc, Sarah. Missed the first bit last night, but will be checking it out later. Good get, Tom. Great interview.
