Update, but his appearance on Am I Right? and now this:
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/e5ed6de326/norm-macdonald-s-final-appearance-on-late-night-with-conan-o-brien
Rakes Conan over the coals about Jay Leno and then does the strangest bit about Sully.
-
He was pretty lame on Weekend Update, but he's one of the best chatshow guests ever.
-
One of the great talk show segments of all time:

What? I thought Norm was GREAT on Weekend Update. Different strokes for different fellows I suppose.
-
Never liked him.
-
I've always loved him, but he does produce a large amount of crap. That last cd he came out with was awful. When he hits though, it is pure genius.
I still reference the 'Family in a Duffel Bag' bit, twenty years later.

Woah, my sentiments exactly even down to the duffel bag bit.
I say "me too" a lot on this here board. It's creepy.

That was a genius bit that seemed to go right over the audiences heads.

Is his appearance on Who Wants to be a Millionaire still on youtube? That was entertaining (and surprising).

That was AWESOME! His humanity was showing through the cracks on that one, too. I loved him on Weekend Update. Such balls.
-
I am a supporter.
I've always loved his habit of explaining his jokes (as evidenced in the clip Chris L posted regarding "9 1/2 Seconds"). He used to do it on Weekend Update a lot, especially when a gag bombed, which was a lot of the time.

Just watched it, Norm is one of the good guys. I found it searching on google video...the page linked is full of ads and seems a bit dodgy, otherwise I'd point you to it.

I was always a fan of Norm on SNL and really enjoyed his unique style of comedy. The Bob Saget roast was phenomenal as well, and as has been stated in this thread, he really is one of the best talk show guests of all time.

Norm is awesome. A Canadian treasure.

I was hoping there would be some youtube clips in this thread.

Norm is easily the best of the Weekend Update anchors. I doubt it would ever happen, but a collection of every one of his WU segments would be the greatest thing ever (then again, prior to 30 Rock I doubted the chances we'd ever get a Best Of Tracy Morgan). One of my favorite aspects of Conan's Tonight Show was his frequent use of Norm (ugh...I hate referring to this show in the past tense already).
Norm's standup is also fantastic. I'm not sure how often he revises his set, but I saw him a few years ago at Northeastern University (in Boston) and he was amazing. The crowd was pretty funny: it was one of those college comedy shows where tickets were dirt-cheap, so there was a steady stream of lame people fleeing Norm's set once it began. He did this one bit about watching a story about a missing person on CNN that had me crying.
-
I think his comedy just doesn't translate well to movies so he's never been able to gain mainstream popularity. When he's on talk shows or doing standup he's hilarious.

Unlike, say, Rob Schneider.
Makin' copies.
-
Norm should forgo the mediocre acting once and for all, cancel all his other projects and focus on his main talent: being a great talk show guest.
Wait, did I say Norm? I meant Tom Hanks.

I loved Dirty Work... Though I haven't seen it in like a decade.
-
I didn't like Dirty Work and I love Norm and Artie. They just both are comedians not meant to be actors.
-
This is the most incredible joke. Sorry non-Americans, you're behind the information curtain.

Wait you guys really didn't like him as host of Update? What the fuck?

I'm disappointed that it took five days for Angry Norm MacDonald Fan-man* to respond. When I came up with the post title, which I actually do believe, I thought, "12 hours at the most."
* Represented by Todd, but surely not limited to him on this board! Right? The rest of you all let Norm down.
-
i was a big norm fan. then i saw him on the view where he renounced his Canadian citizenship for not participating in the Iraq war, stated that Reagen was the greatest American president of all time, and a lot of other great stuff.
and this:

He makes me laugh a lot, so I can forgive some dumb political beliefs.

Oh, is he a libertarian? No offense to the libertarians on this board.
-
All his jokes that I used to think were hilarious suddenly turned unfunny because I found out he's not a progressive like me. I'm bummed out! >:(

this is great. he must be one of the greatest talk show guests of all time. up there with Charles Grodin. thank you very much for posting these.
-
I just saw Norm do stand up on saturday night and I have to say, everything he said was perfect. I didn't stop laughing the entire time. I've been a Norm fan and followed everything he's done since the mid 90's and he didn't talk about anything I'd ever heard before. All new, all great. In my opinion he is the funniest human alive.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, perhaps the subject has been brought up elsewhere on this board. Dennis Miller. I enjoyed his run on SNL and even liked his HBO talk show, examples above. 9/11 happens and this guy draws a line in the sand and stops being funny? I never thought it had anything to do with political stripe. Conservatives can be funny. When I have had the opportunity to see Miller on television these past nine years, I've cringed and changed the channel. Maybe he never was funny and now what I think is funny has changed as I've aged. I've tried listening to his fear based point of view...it just makes me sad.
Thoughts anyone?
-
I don't know. He seems pretty bad in those old clips.
-
They accidentally cut his comedy artery during his hair implants.
-
I liked him as "the cool one" on Weekend Update and in absolutely nothing since.
Dana Carvey's impersonation of him, gentle as it was, should have ended his career.

My brother used to book the Improv in Dallas and told me a story of Dennis Miller calling Dana Carvey (who was booked for the following night) on stage after he had specifically requested to be left alone and remain anonymous so Dana went up and did Dennis Miller's entire hour long act as Dennis Miller and then walked off stage and out of the club. Now THAT is just desserts.
-
I liked Miller well enough on Weekend Update when I was a wee lad in short pants. He's one of Bill O'Reilly's on-air toadies now. I visited family over the holidays and had to listen to an hour-long "best of" special of him on "The Factor" from the other room. It was almost as excruciating as the long-simmering blow-up that occurred over the short pants.
-
He has a radio show here in Los Angeles that is unlistenable. I don't know what happened to him, but whatever it was, it wasn't funny.

Wow. There is now video more coveted than the PFT roast...

I tried listening to that, briefly subscribed to the podcast...didn't get very far into an episode and deleted the subscription. Maybe I just like it when he talks to his buddies, or just when he speaks to Norm.
